    1. [FARRIS-L] Farris, Oklahoma
    2. Hi Wanda; I just returned homw from a trip to Dallas, Texas. On my way back I noticed that Farris , Oklahoma was only 17 miles East of Atoka, Oklahoma on Hwy 69 & 75 right where I going thru, so I decided to take a detour and go To Farris, Oklahoma. After arriving there I passed the Farris School Where I stopped and took a few pictures, then drove on into Farris, where I dicovered a Farris Church of Christ, 2 pump gas Station (closed) a Farris Baptist Church and also an Assembly of God. There was old house they called a Cafe that was also Closed. I ran into a gentleman putting air in his truck tire and I asked him if there was a Farris Cemetary and said yes and had me follow him and he'd point it out, there was about a hundred people burried there, but no Farris'. So my Trip to the Town Farris , Oklahoma proved that the School was closed the Gas Station and the Cafe were closed everyone else was in church and the rest didn't hang around tobe burried in the Cemetary. Atleast I finally Visited Farris Oklahoma. I just wanted to share my visit to you all. Take Care Pete Farris

    3. Sounds pretty neat trip still though. Sounds like a "town" I lived in, except I don't think there was even a cemetery. The town was about 3 block wide 1 or 2 long, Had a school (closed), 2 bars (1 attached to a small restaurant...actually that was just a "big room") a grocery store, Post Office, several "fireman" & about 8-9 cops that lived around the town. Illegal to burn trash (which I found out after I did it). It was a mining town. So, for any "excitement" the teenagers had to go to the nearby town about 20 miles away. 3. That is interesting, Pete. I guess either all of the Farrises left that area or else the male lines died out. Does anyone know anything about the history of Farris, OK? 3. The book "Oklahoma Place Names" states "FARRIS. In southeastern Atoka County, 18 miles southeast of Atoka. A post office established May 17, 1902, it was named for John L. Farris, first postmaster." Barbara Farris Cunningham Wanda Rabb wrote: >That is interesting, Pete. I guess either all of the >Farrises left that area or else the male lines died >out.
