PALMER - Providence DORIS E. PALMER, 85, a retired foster grandparent and former cook, died Saturday at Rosewood Manor Nursing Center, where she was a resident. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late James A. and Estelle (Reddick) Farris, she had been a resident of the city most of her life. She was employed as a foster grandparent for 10 years for the state of Rhode Island at the Broad Street Branch YMCA before retiring. She had also been a cook at the Marriot Hotel for several years. She attended Ebenezer Baptist Church. She leaves a son, Mujahid Abdullah of Providence; three daughters, Mary B. Fields of Woonsocket, and Julia E. "Betty" Palmer and Joan Palmer, both of Providence; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late George A. Palmer, and the sister of the late Earl, James, Harold, and Lucille Farris, Viola Lucas, and Gertrude White.
