She graduated from Plain Dealing High School on May 30, 1941. On July 1, 1944 she enlisted in the WAVE's, going to the US Naval Training Schools in Bronx, New York and Stillwater, Oklahoma. She was then assigned to the NAAS, Rodd Field in Corpus Christi, Texas as a Yeoman. She married Harold Fredrick Farris September 19, 1945, in the Rodd Field Chapel, and received an Honorable Discharge from the service in Memphis, Tennessee, on October 20, 1945. Following her husband's discharge from the Navy in 1946, the couple moved to Ft. Collins, Colorado, where both attended Colorado A & M College. In Minnesota they lived in Austin, Sherburn, Edgerton and Elmore. She was active in Cub Scouting, PTA, was Room Mother at school several years, President of the Legion Auxiliary, WM Coop and Farmers State Bank. During eight years in Iowa City, Iowa, she was Personnel Secretary for the Shelier-Globe Corporation. After returning to Sherburn in 1985, she enjoyed working in the yard. In 1992 the couple moved to Louisana, living in the Brushy Community on land owned by her father. Ms. Farris was preceded in death by her husband, Harold on June 18, 1999, one brother Steven R. Strayhan and one sister Mary Elizabeth Strayhan. She is survived by her children: three sons, Philip Harold of Orlando, Florida, Frederick Alan of Las Vegas, Nevada and William Lawrence of Maple Grove, Minnesota, and one daughter Judy Kaye Krueger of Rocklin, California; also one brother, James F. Strayhan and three sisters, Thelma Brandeo of Plain Dealing, Louisiana, Betty Murphy of Glendora, California and Shirley Permenter of Logansport, Louisiana. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2003 from 1-4 p.m. at her home. Boone Funeral Home Bossier 742-5361
