She was born in Milan, Italy, on May 2, 1916. As best her family can tell she came to America via Ellis Island, N.Y., alone at age 12 sometime during 1928. There, she met her mother and stepfather for the first time. By age 13, her mother died, and she was once again alone, trying to find her way in the world. She is survived by her son, John Dodig; daughter, Nina Dodig Randall; granddaughter, Jennifer Miller; two great-grandchildren, Solenne and Ian; and her former daughter-in-law, Colette Charette who, since age 19, was more an adopted daughter than an in-law, her husband, Mark, and their daughter, Claire. Family and close friends will celebrate her life at a dinner tomorrow in New Haven. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Connecticut.
