She was born Jan. 27, 1962, in Burke County to Mrs. Tommie Sue Walker of Lenoir and the late Carl David Self. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandmother, Hattie Costner Self. Carla was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her grandbaby, the mountains, motorcycles and her home of Wilson Creek. She was a member of Edgemont Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her step-father, Arnold Walker of Lenoir; a son and daughter-inlaw, Jesse Allen Farris Sr. and Charlotte Farris of Lenoir; step-brother, Ronnie Walker and wife Sandra of Morganton; a sister, Susan Self of Morganton; a step-sister, Kathy Crisp of Morganton; and a grandson, Jesse Allen Farris Jr. of Lenoir. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 9, 2006, at 6 p.m. at Greer-McElveen Funeral Home Chapel, and there will be a receiving friends following the service. The family will be at the home of Arnold and Tommie Sue Walker on Brown Mountain Beach Road. Greer-McElveen Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
