Farris James Edgar Farris, 59, of 1924 Abbey Lane, Hagerstown, Md., died on Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at the Washington County Hospital. Born May 11, 1947, in Washington, D.C. He was the son of Anna Mary Davenport of Silver Spring, Md., and the late Edgar Hobert Farris. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Lee Farris. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed with Verizon, retiring after 37 years. He was a member of C.W.A. Local 2105 for 15 years and served as president. He was a member of the American Legion, Williamsport Post 202. In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son, James Farris of Berkeley Springs; one daughter, Debbie Richmond of Richmond, Va.; one stepdaughter, Chrissy Donovan of Martinsburg; four stepsons, Clay Collis of Martinsburg, Jeff Collis of High Point, N.C., Brian Oxendine of Middletown, Va., and Brett Oxendine of Hagerstown; three brothers, Donald Farris, Kenneth Farris, and Robert Farris, all of the Silver Spring, Md., area; 15 grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; and companion, Iva Oxendine, of Hagerstown. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd. Pastor Jack Hiles will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and also following the memorial service.
