"Al" Farris E.W. "Al" Farris E.W. "Al" Farris, 86, died Monday, March 5, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Farris. The service will be at 11 a.m. EST Wednesday at Killearn United Methodist Church, with burial at Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park. Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Timberlane Road Chapel (850-893-4177) is handling arrangements. Al was born July 26, 1920, in Indianapolis, Ind., and was a longtime resident of Tallahassee. He was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis and Florida International University. He enlisted in the Army in 1940 at Fort Harrison, Ind., attended Signal Corps School and became a high-speed radio operator assigned to the 51st Signal Battalion. In 1941, he was transferred to MacDill Air Force Base. During World War II, Al served in Panama, Galapagos and China. He elected to make the Air Force his career and was assigned to OSI (Office of Special Investigations), where he was a cryptologist. His military tours took him to Alask! a and France. After his military retirement as a major, he began a second career as an agent with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, from which he also retired. He was a charter member of Killearn United Methodist Church and a member of the Retired Officers Association, the Masons and the Scottish Rite. Other survivors include his daughter, Kathy Hodge, and her husband, Burt, of Tallahassee, and three granddaughters, DeAnne, Amy and Jessica Hodge.
