Burial: Westover Memorial Park They were my gg-grandparents, and altho I was born in 1943, and lived just across the river in North Augusta, Aiken Co. SC, I never met them. I don't remember meeting any of the siblings of my grandmother either. According to my research, this family goes back to James Farris md. Rebecca Unknown to me. According to Elvin E. Farris <mefarris@bellsouth.net>, 961 Rosemont Drive Panama City, FL 32405, this family line goes back to [Ian Esom Farris] md [Emily Jane Cameron]. They are in brackets because I have no documentation for them. Anyway, thought I would post a few of my family obits that connect to my Faris line thru Laura Elizabeth Inglett, daughter of Howell Farris and Elizabeth Parker, finally connected through the generous work of a researcher in the Augusta Ga area who finally found them in the 1880 census under the name of Fairest Howell, with Howell being listed as last name. An good example that sometimes we need a line by line, very open minded search of these records. The following are obits or death notices or info. on each of the children. If anyone knows anything else about the children, I would appreciate a contact at tjones@camden.net or 2321 Moultrie Rd, Camden, SC 29020. ----------------------------------------------------- My Dad's Uncle Bennie was the grandfather of a newfound cousin, Rebecca Hass, who sent me the following obit from the the Athens GA paper: Athens, GA: Bennie W. Inglett, 96, of 104 Alpine Way died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997. A native of Augusta, Mr. Inglett was a son of the late John and Laura Farris Inglett and the widower of Bessie Ann Thompkins Inglett. An Army veteran of World War I, Chief Inglett went to work with the Augusta Water Works Department in the early 1920s before moving to the Augusta Police Department. About 18 months later, he transferred to the Fire Department and in 1947 retired as chief after 25 years of service. He then managed the Maxwell House Apartments in Augusta for several years, and later operated a cattle farm, the Inglett Farm & Cattle Ranch, for 15 years outside Augusta. He then moved to Athens and was a major stockholder and vice president of Richard's Shoes Inc., a cooperation operated by his son Richard. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Memorial Park with Dr. Jim Burkett officiating. Survivors include two sons, Charles D. Inglett, Port Orange , Fla., and Richard Inglett, Athens; (Predeceased son Robert Inglett California, twin to Richard), six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. ------------------------------------------- Bennie's sister was my grandmother: Her obit was not filled out by any family interested in family preservation. I had nothing to do with this one! So I will make additions below the obit. Note the obit does name her brother Bennie, of the obit above. She was the wife of William Henry Smith, Sr., and the daughter of John and Laura Elizabeth Farris Inglett. At the time of her death, Uncle Bennie was the only surviving sibling. -------------------------------------- Obit of another brother - Warren Thedron Inglett, from a clipping I found in the Bible of my grandmother, Carrie Lee Inglett Smith, his sister ,has no date, but states: Wallace T. The following is what I have on her: Augusta Chronicle, Sept 12, 1972: Mrs. Bertha Lasater Funeral services were held Monday in Albuquerque NM for Mrs. Bertha Inglett Lasater, sister of four Augustans who died Friday in Albuquerque after a bried fillness. Bertha Mae Lassater was an active member of First Church of Christ, Scientist. [500 Richmond Pl NE, Albuquerque, NM] An Albuquerque resident since 1930, she died Sept 8, 1972 at an Albuquerque hospital after a short illness. She was the widow of O. W. Lasater. Mrs. Lasater moved to Albuquerque from Santa Fe. She was born in Augusta Ga., said her son-in-law, Lawrence Iden. She lived at 2901 Euclid Ne. Survivors: Mrs. Lasater is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Iden; twp brothers Wallace Inglett of both of Augusta. Funeral services wil be held at Strong-Thorne Mortuary [Obituary, Sept 9, 1972 The Abiquerque ?] -------------------------------------------------------- The other child in the family , Henry Hardy Inglett, died at 2 yrs. According to Elliott's Funeral Home records cost was charged to John Inglett and place of residence at the time was 1497 Silcox St. In a Christmas card to Wm. H. Smith, Jr and family in 1967, Aunt Maggie OConner stated that Henry Hardy was buried in Ft. Gordon cemeteries #7. I have visited the old Inglett cemeteries now located on Ft. Gordon Army Base, Augusta, Richmond Co, GA and photographed all the Inglett tombstones. I cannot find the picture of Henry Hardy's right now, and did not source the dates I entered at the time, but think these were from the tombstone "Henry Hardy Inglett 1904 - May 26, 1906", Cem. #7, Pinetucky, Richmond Co. Ga. now owned by the US Govt, Ft. Gordon Army Reservation, Augusta, GA. --------------------------------------- Any further information on any of the Inglett's would be appreciated. Because of the sharing of Steve Hardin, I have info. on lots of the other lines, and I have gotten obits and records from the Augusta Chronicle of lots of them. Billie Jones tjones@camden.net
