I started not to send this but after careful consideration I thought it might be useful to some one. Along while back i sent a copy of a newspaper article from Titus County Texas in 1854. The article told of a Farris man getting shot and his brother went after the shooter and shot him almost taking his arm off I think. We have wondered for a long time what Farris was involved. Today I found out. Lou Farris brought me this copy she found on a Texas web site she can't recall which web site though. The following appears to be an attorney's acct book: To the right about half way down the page it says Taxing cost >.50 final file record 2.50 3.25 this is end of the case before ours. Docketing .25 filing 3 papers .37 62 Cu---as & copy Indictment 2.00 appearances .25 Judgement .75 1.00 Taxing cost .75 Subpoena; 8 witnesses 3.00 3.75 Swearing 6 witnesses .75 cost & seal .50 final record 3.00 3.50 this is the end of our case Now on the left side of the page it says Republic viz Affray - - Major J. Farris et al So now we know the Farris that shot the other fellow was Major J. Farris. Hope this helps someone Major Farris was in Mississippi at one point and later in Louisiana I don't know if it is the same man or not. This I think would call for more investigation if you have an interest in Titus County Texas History.
