This is a reply to Joan and Sylvia re: their Farris inquiry. At first I thought my side was far from either of yours, but you caught me at the end w/a note of Ferguson. My grandfather was Frances William Farris (b. 5-6-1874 in St. Center, Iowa d. 12-13-1956 in Madelia, Mn.) his father was Harvey Farris (b. 5-6-1874 in New York d. 10-6-1885 in State Center, IA) Harvey married Mary Jane O'Dell or Roshell Dec. 14, 1860 also from New York. Family lore says Harvey fought for Tenn. on the confederate side - and that he had "family" in that area. Why he moved to Iowa - I'm still trying to find out. Harvey and Mary Jane died in 1885. The two youngest boys were put in an orphanage but my grandfather was put on a farm as a laborer ( he was 14 years old approx.) , per my mother on a distant cousin's farm....NAME Ferguson, Robert - from Ohio - a Farmer.
