The listowners literally pitched fits to no avail. Rootsweb is having to compete with the other "for-profit" services online that offer multiple surname lists. I believe this is probably why it was done. They are also running banner advertisements on all the newly created GenConnect Boards so I am sure that was part of the reason - to obtain more funds to operate on. Rootsweb had solely depended upon donations and I think they were forced to get into the advertising arena in order to survive. This is all just "my opinion"...I could be wrong! Wanda
