    1. [FARRIS-L] Farris/Riggins Connection
    2. Lillie Munford
    3. The question about the Farris-Riggins connection was interesting to me because my grandfather, who began his life as Willie or William D. Farris and ended it as D. W. Farris (for reasons that have no bearing here), had two relatives named Ben or Benjamin. I know one was a first cousin and the son of Mycajah (Cage) Farris. I don't know what kin the other was. My mother, who is now 75, met one of those Ben's (when she was a child) at a gathering and asked him if he was Ben Riggins. He was not, but laughed at the question. The point is, my grandfather had a relative named Ben (or Benjamin) Riggins Farris. Coincidence? Maybe! But maybe not! As far as I have been able to learn, most of Grandaddy's family stayed in the Washington County and Smyth County region with quite a few of them clustered around the Saltville area. Grandaddy was born in 1889, and most of his siblings and first cousins would have been born from the early 70's up to 1900. One first cousin was born in 1902, and one may have been born in the early 1920's, but the rest would have been born in the last 30 years of the nineteenth century. Maybe some of the Farris researchers will have information on Ben Riggins Farris and will be able to tell us if or how the families are connected. Lillie Munford
