    1. [FARRIS-L] My FARRIS
    2. Hello again, This is my third time subscribing to the list over the last couple of years- I like this group a lot -great help and friendly. Its just when I get overwhelmed in my mail box and I give up in frustration over my difficult FARRIS ancestor I pull back for awhile. Anyway I have some more facts and a lot more probables than what I did a year ago so here goes. George Washington FARRIS b. abt 1811 KY - probably the son of another George W. FARRIS. His second marriage was to Sarah JOHNSON WILLIAMS (b. 1840 daughter of Arthur Lewis and Mary SIMPSON JOHNSON) in 1864 in Gibson Co. IN. Their children were: William Thompson 1864 (my grtgrt) Rosetta John Lewis Martha Elizabeth (Mattie) Spicey Endia 1872 Sarah died in 1872, probably in childbirth with Spicey. George W. took the children to Jack Co., TX where they are listed on the 1880 census. He died shortly thereafter and the children were separated and went their own ways. WT and Rosetta ended up in OK and the other three stayed in Jack Co. I am almost certain of the following: He is the George FARRIS living in Wayne Co. IL in 1840, 1850 and 1860. Married to an S. ( dont you all hate initials?) He had children, all initials except one who was Jasper. ( My WT had a son named Jasper) There are also in Wayne Co., Samuel and James, who are both on the 1850 IL census report. I believe these both to be his brothers as well as Thompson FARRIS who was living next door in Hamilton Co. IL. Thompson had sons named Samuel and George W. There is even a possiblity that the Spicey E. JOHNSON living in Wayne Co. in 1860 as head of household is a sister. I have not yet been able to view all the census reports I have records of. In 1830 there are a George W. and a Samuel FARRIS. I expect that these are one generation back as my George would have been only 21 and Samuel 14. Since there are both a George W. and a George in 1840 and land was purchased by both of these people under these names I believe that my George went by George until the senior George W. died because after 1850 he started using George W. After years of trying to find something on this man I have at last found some possibles. If anybody has anything to help - please let me know. Charmaine Riley Holley arkivemom@aol.com
