Ann C. Harrison In the City of Galveston, in the State of Texas, on the 1st day of April A. D. 1870, We the undersigned in the presence of Ann C. Harrison, and at her request, and in the presence of each other, have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses: W. F. Blunt L. E. Trezevant Obituary of Ann Catherine Farris/McKinstry/Harrison “The friends of the deceased were painfully surprised by the arrival of the remains of Mrs. ANN C. HARRISON this morning, for internment, that lady having died at Harrodsburg, Ky., shortly after her arrival there from Galveston. She was among the very first settlers of Texas, coming to the then wilderness, in the flush and hope of early life, some forty years ago. She had passed through many vicissitudes, and survived her offspring and nearly all the friends of her early years; but she retained an abiding love for the country of her early adoption and left a request which has been nobly kept by her niece living in Kentucky that her remains may find their last rest in the land she had so long inhabited and loved with the devotion of a woman and almost that of a martyr-for she past through many perilous and trying scenes, without ever thinking of its abondonment. Many a needy and forlorn wanderer had had cause to be thankful for her kindness. She leaves many friends in Galveston where she has resided for many years past, and others, of longer standing, scattered through the State.” “The Galveston, Daily Civilian” (April 30, 1870 pg 5, col 1 and 2) I am also looking for information on Ann Catherine's near relatives who came through Mississippi on the way to Brazoria county Texas...Willis A. Faris and Mrs. Eliza J. Faris. I think they are kin because: Willis A. and Eliza J. had adjoining land in Monroe county Mississippi before they came to Texas. They bought the land on the same day with sequential document numbers in 1825. Also: In 1841, Ann Catherine (Faris) Harrison and Mrs. Eliza J. Faris both from Brazoria assisted at the birth of the son of Anson Jones in Austin after Ann Catherine and her second husband Greenberry Horus Harrison were married. Willis A. Faris married Burnetta Whitesides in Hinds County Mississippi in Jan, 1834. He arrived in Brazoria county Texas Dec., 1834. He was a close associate of Ann Catherine's first husband George B. Mckinstry. For what it's worth, other surnames that were usually around these Farrises were Gill, Patton, Cooper, Collingsworth and Austin. Anyone out there have anything on this family? Stan Farris
