A native of Cherryville, born June 24, 1913, he was a son of the late Amos Pinkney Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth Farris Homesley. He retired from Carolina Freight Carriers after 36 years of service and was the last survivor of the original drivers. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, James, A. P., Marvin and Bynum Homesley; and two sisters, Anne Jonas and Nellie Homesley. He is survived by his wife, Edna Deveney Homesley of the home; three sons, Bob Homesley, Jim Homesley and wife, Louise, all of Cherryville, and Gary Homesley and wife, Marcia, of Gastonia; two daughters, Robbie Arvidson and husband, Gary, and Judi Boyd and husband, Ronnie, all of Cherryville; a brother, Don Homesley of Cherryville; two sisters, Margaret Marrash of Charlotte and Mary Ruth Mundy of Cherryville; five grandchildren, Kim Homesley Beam, Hope Homesley Riggins, Jeff Homesley, Crystal McKinney and Jennifer Malone; two great-grandchildren, Grant Beam and Autumn Kondzielski; and five step-grandchildren, Shane Alfonse, Troy Alfonse, Jennifer Alfonse, Ronnie Whisnant and Tommy Whisnant. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating. Burial will follow in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Memorials may be made to Christian Outreach Center of First Baptist Church, 301 E. First St., Cherryville, NC 28021. She attended the Church of Christ as her work schedule permitted. She is survived by three sons, Jeff Key, Estill Springs; Ralph (Annette) Key, Town Creek, Ala., and Rex Key, Florence, Ala.; four sisters, Jean Russell, Tullahoma; Martha Fay Simms, Athens, Ala.; Alice (Al) East, Manchester, and Sarah Greer, Nashville; two brothers, Howard Farris, McMinnville, and Charles Farris, Manchester; four grandchildren, Phillip Key, Peyton Key, Dustin (Jessica) Key and Ariel Key, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. today, Aug. 21, at Watson-North Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. with Dustin Key officiating.
