She is survived by her sisters, Pat Morris and Piper Jacobs of Wichita, Suzanne of Pennsylvania; brothers, Donald of Maryland, David of Wichita. She is also survived by 17 nieces and nephews and 14 great nieces and nephews and 1 great great nephew. Margaret will be greatly missed by all her friends and family. She was affectionately known as "Aunt Peg." A service of remembrance will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Hillside Funeral Home-East Chapel. Burial at Kechi Township Cemetery. Born February 4, 1923, in Ames, Iowa to John and Anna Schmitz, Rita was one of four daughters. She moved to San Francisco, California during WWII to serve as a gunnery sergeant where she met her beloved husband, the late Robert Farris. They were married on September 8, 1949, and raised their family in Orinda, California before moving to Bellevue in 1969. Following her husband's retirement, the couple traveled extensively as part of an executive volunteer program to assist in dairy consulting in developing countries. Rita's strong faith shined through in all that she did. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish in Bellevue and volunteered in a variety of capacities locally to help others. She was quick to respond to those in need and could be counted on by her fellow parishioners and many close friends. Rita was first and foremost a dedicated wife and mother who will be rem! embered for her love and devotion to her family. She delighted in her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed dividing her time between her children's families. Rita's strength of character, boundless energy and wonderful sense of humor made her a fun-loving and much-adored wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Rita was preceded in death by her husband Robert, sons Gregg and Bradley, and sisters Ann Bellinghausen, and Lillian Malloy. She is survived by her son, Robert Farris (wife Susan) of Vista Santa Rosa, California; son, Michael Farris of Incline Village, Nevada; daughter, Linda Cahill (husband Mike) of Spokane; son, Tim Farris (wife Leslie) of Bellingham; daughter, Roberta Farris of Bainbridge Island; daughter, Laura Farris (husband Clint Robbins) of Olympia; daughter, Barbara Holford (husband Myke) of Yakima; sister, Phyllis Sayre, 14 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Recitation of the ! Rosary will be Thursday, September 1st, at 7 p.m., and the Funeral Mas s will be celebrated Friday, September 2nd, at 10 a.m., BOTH at Sacred Heart Church in Bellevue, with private burial to follow at Bayview Cemetery in Bellingham. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Lucille; one son, Michael (Vicki); one daughter, Heather (Darren); one precious granddaughter; Darienne; two brothers; Floyd (Shirley) and Jay (Anna); one sister Wilma (Lloyd); many nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends and co-workers. Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 5, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel with Pastor Justin W. Griffis officiating. Interment followed in Macedonia Cemetery. She was a member of Hickory Road Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in many positions including, Sunday school teacher, choir member, choir director, pianist, WMU director and kindergarten teacher. She was retired from SAFE Federal Credit Union after 19 years of service. Survivors besides her husband of 52 years include two sons, Edwin C. Carroll and his wife, Judy, of York and Timothy R. Carroll and his wife, Debbie, of Sumter; two brothers, Paul R. Farris and his wife, Linda, and Wray D. Farris and his wife, Mary, all of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Gail Anderson of Winston Salem, N.C., and Annie A. "Mitt" Farris of Kings Mountain; five grandchildren, Lynette Filyaw and her husband, Jason, of New Zion, Brandon Laughlin, Bonnie Laughlin, Blake Laughlin and Barry Laughlin, all of Wichita, Kan.; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ted Farris and Calvin Farris. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Antioch Baptist Church, Blacksburg, with the Rev. Guy Langston and the Rev. Vernon Craig officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Barry Carroll, Bobby Barnes, Bruce Scudder, Wayne Earl, Kieth Carroll and John Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Hickory Road Baptist Church. She was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Columbus to Arthur A. and Anna Eunson Farris, who preceded her in death. On March 13, 1948, she married George Schiffer Jr., who died Nov. 6, 1990. Mrs. Schiffer retired as a librarian from Lima City Schools and had worked at Equity Dairy Stores, Quilna Theater and Steeles Automotive. She was a member of Forest Park United Methodist Church and a former member of High Street United Methodist Church. She was a lifetime volunteer for the Lima Memorial Health System Auxiliary, where she volunteered in the mammography unit at the Lima Medical Park. She was also a volunteer for Johnny Appleseed parks and participated in Johnny Appleseed Yarn Spinners. She was a 1947 graduate of Lima South High School. She enjoyed swimming at the Senior Citizens Center. Survivors include two daughters, Laraine (Doug) Crail of Toledo and Linda (Mark) Billingsley of Lima; a son, George (Jan) Schiffer III of Lima; two sisters, Wanda Fellows of Orange, Calif., and Alisa (Jerry) Thomas of Marion; a half brother, Bob Neesan; three stepsiblings, Owen Rodenberger, Virginia Swern of Lima and Bonnie Long of Elida; eight grandchildren, Todd Crail and Laura (Christopher) Werner, both of Toledo, Betsy (Jeremy) Aikens of Lima, Scott Billingsley of Allentown, Pa., Tim Billingsley of Columbus, Nathan (Sarah) Schiffer of Delaware, Ohio, Brian Schiffer of Dublin and Hillary Schiffer of Lima; and two great-grandsons, Travis Aikens and Tyler Aikens. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Rose Teeters, Isabelle Amrine, Leona Bryan, Joan Bloom and Evelyn Murphy. Services will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home. She was born in Stanley on October 6, 1910, daughter of the late William C. and Mary Ellen Farris Murphy. She grew up and worked most of her life on North Main Street in Stanley where she watched the town of Stanley grow and develop. After graduating from high school at age 16, she began working for the Lola Mills, which later became Katterman and Mitchell. Through many changes of management, operations and ownership; through the great depression, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and through periods of prosperity, Venie could be found at her desk until 1975, when she retired from J.P. Stevens. She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Bumgardner in 1968, and has been an active and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Stanley for over 80 years. Her enthusiastic love for life in Stanley led the town leaders to choose her as Grand Marshall in the 1992 Christmas parade. Since 1998, Venie has resided at the Stanley Total Living Center. Survivors include many nieces and nephews. Funeral services conducted by the Rev. Dr. Thomas Stegald will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. I have him born in 1788 and d. in 1870 which is based on the mortality schedule of the Wayne Co., IL Press. He was born on July 15, 1917, in Argo, Alabama, son of the late Elroy and Jeanette (nee: Black) Farris. Samuel served in the United States Army during World War II. On September 12, 1943, he was united in marriage to Lalar Mosley. He was employed by Belle City Foundry for many years. He was a member and Deacon of the Greater Mt. Eagle Missionary Baptist Church. He also was a member of the American Legion Post #546, a past member of the Masons and enjoyed being a member of the Senior Group at the Breakthru Neighborhood Center. Above all he enjoyed spending time with his family, and will be dearly missed.
