Tax list, living at 1016 Talcott? Date of birth works.] My g-grandmother Laura Elizabeth Farris was not born until 1872. Her medical papers (patient and husband interviews at Milledgeville State Hospital, Baldwin Co, GA state she was born in Sparta, Hancock Co.,Ga.) I have been unable to find Laura Elizabeth Farriss in any census as a child to help prove the info. given to me by my grandmother, her daughter, Carrie Lee Inglett (of Pinetucky, Richmond Co, GA) md. William H. Smith Sr. (Richmond co, GA). According to John Inglett, husband of Laura Elizabeth Farriss, Howell Farriss was a drunkard. I know that he and his wife divorced. But not when or what became of him. I have information on the ancestors from Elvin E. Farris <mefarris@bellsouth.net>, 961 Rosemont Drive Panama City, FL 32405, but I have been unable to find Howell. Any help with the whereabouts of this Howell Farriss after 1870 would be much appreciated. Billie Jones

    1. [FARRIS] Lew Farris killed in the Texas Dawson Massacre 1842
    2. STANLEY FARRIS
    3. Hello all, I am looking for the family of one of one of our Texas heroes. There is a Lew or Low Farris who was killed along with about 30 others on September 18, 1842 at Salado Creek just south of San Antonio. This group organized in La Grange, Fayette County, Texas under Nicholas Dawson to fight the Mexican army which was lead by General Woll when they invaded Texas after it was already a republic. This action was called "The Dawson Massacre", "The Battle of Salado Creek" and "The Woll Campaign". All the bodies of those killed at Salado Creek are buried in a tomb at Monument Hill in La Grange. I had a wreath put on the tomb for him during the memorial services last month. If any of you have this brave man in your family tree, we would appreciate any information you might have. Stan Farris

    2. Wanda Rabb
    3. Folks....Pete is NOT a subscriber of our list. He is literally going to every surname board (the posts filter through to our list) and is posting his complaint there. He has also been sending ME individual e-mails because I post MANY obits to all of my surname lists. I have contacted Rootsweb about this but have not received a reply yet. I can find NO policy that states the obits must be posted to the Obits board rather than surname boards. I suspect he may be the administrator of the obits board and could be drumming up posts for that board. At any rate, rest assured unless I receive a message from Rootsweb to the contrary, I WILL continue posting the obits as they are helpful to researchers. I believe they are viewed more when posted to the surname boards where they are more relevant! 3. fussing about the small stuff is what has separated families over the centuries and apparently it is still going on I think it is time for everyone to get on with the business of finding their families not losing them over nonsense. if i don't recognize a name and it doesn't seem to fit into my genealogy i delete it it is quite simple. Just click on to the e-mail and get the arrow to go to delete and delete it. now everyone please lets get on with the business of locating our families and not displacing them ok. thank you for your understanding hearts. marilee >From: Kenneth And Pat Irvin <pawpaw-irvin@sbcglobal.net> >Reply-To: farris@rootsweb.com >To: farris@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [FARRIS] Current Obituaries >Date: Mon, 2 Oct 2006 07:50:10 -0700 (PDT) > >I wish that you all would please stop fussing on this >web-page > >--- bryanfarris@ncwcom.com wrote: > > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to > > this mailing list. > > > > Classification: Query > > > > Message Board URL: > > > > >http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GeV.2ACEB/2204.1.1.1.3.1 > > > > Message Board Post: > > > > If you do not like the obits, you have the option to > > not read the post, just read the next post. > > > > Why would someone want to read ALL the Obit posts at > > the Obit board when they can read the Farris Obits > > here on the Farris board? Why would someone want to read ALL the Obit posts at the Obit board when they can read the Farris Obits here on the Farris board? Makes more sence to put Farris information on the Farris board. Farris board is for Farris information, it is here for a place to share Farris information, it is a very good place of individuals whom are willing to help others. I encourage all to post theirs Obits, Pictures, family stories, and other information so we all can share in the Farris information. Keep those Obits coming !!!!!!!! Ancestry does not want to be the mediator, but if threats continue on these boards they WILL remove those who continue to be threatening without merit.

Maybe it would help if in your next post, you chose to include the offendors names - maybe then they might wake up. I see that the gentleman below did not comment on the Obit Board. Perhaps he is not familiar with it or perhaps he is simply not a frequent poster to Ancestry to be entirely familiar with all the boards I am one of the data-miners you referenced in your earlier post. But like most, I have the good sense to not to drop every single obit into the surname boards! What would be the purpose? Then the surname boards would turn into the Obit Board. And you are correct, this is why Ancestry designed the Obit Board for the specific purpose you referenced ie., data-miners like myself. I plan to contact Ancestry in the coming days and if the gentlemen below misinterprets it as a threat, so be it!

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GeV.2ACEB/2204.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Mr Farris Please re-read my post. I did not say that posting of obits was wrong. What my post stated and alluded to was that the continued posting of "current" obituaries was creating a problem for the rest of us who are attempting to accomplish real research. Pages and pages of them. Some boards, such as the Ledford board are much, much, worse. Perhaps I was too subtle... I am specifically referring to those individuals who data-mine on a daily basis and post every obit with the last name of Farris and then drop those obits into the surnames board. Ancestry has an obituary board for current obits and as of today there are 66,084 obits posted. "Current" obits....... The Obit Board also happens to be the single largest and continually growing board that Ancestry has. It averages 150 posted Obits per day. Ancestry makes a distinction between surname research (where some obits are traded) and the Obit board where you toss obits from funeral homes and newspapers. I wish others would make the same distinction without having to be told. Some things should not have to be pointed out. The link is below http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/board/an/topics.obits

    3. Posting Obits are appropriate to the boards, as per Rootsweb, javascript:ShowRules('http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=rules&r=rw&p=surnames') is the link to "Message Board Rules" So I guess to those that find the Obits are not to their liking, I guess the options are to delete those emails, or change to a digest option of message board entries, or last resort, is to unsubscribe, which I think is unnecessary, but every one has to make up their own minds.
