Farris, 80, of Peoria died at 11:32 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2007, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. He was born April 12, 1927, in Canton, a son of Theodore Kensel and Minnie Grubb Farris. He married Dolores Magner on June 3, 1950, in Peoria. She preceded him in death in June 1983. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Ivan Farris, and three sisters, Darlene Rapp, Christine Glaub and Vonee Turner. Surviving are one daughter, Peggy Jacobs of Peoria; one son, Michael Farris of Peoria; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Donna Rice and Shirley Freeman, both of Peoria, and Marilyn McDougle of Holly Springs, Miss.; and one brother, Clifford Farris of Peoria. He first worked as a coal miner and later worked as a construction laborer for Local 165 in Peoria. Lawrence loved to hunt and was past president of the Peoria Area Coon Hunters Club. He was a United States World War II Navy veteran. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2007, at Davison-Fulton Bartonville Chapel, where visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or the South Side Mission. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to www.mem.com. Mrs. Farris was born Sept. 27, 1912, in Burke County, to the late William and Margaret Junine Tron Poe. Before her illness, she was an active member of the Waldensian Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Farris was a homemaker except for a period during World War II when she became the Postmistress of the Valdese Post Office while her husband, the Postmaster, served in the armed forces. She is survived by two half brothers, Edgar A. Poe of Newland and Sterling Poe of Black Mountain; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Farris of Charlotte; a great-niece, Lara Pons of Mt. Pleasant, great-nephews, Stan Pons of Belmont, Joe Pons of Greenville, S.C.; and nephews, James Poe of Morganton and John Poe of South Port. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Farris. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in t! he Waldensian Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James Cockerham officiating. Interment will follow in the Waldensian Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Waldensian Presbyterian Church. She went on to earn her travel agent certificate and worked as a travel agent up until her retirement in 2001. Following her retirement, she returned to the Shelton area. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Crete. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed animals, especially her beloved cat, Ringo. She was preceded in death by her father, her grandparents and a nephew, Brad Ohlman. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was born on March 21, 1921, in Lubec the daughter of James and Margaret Small Denbow. She was the 13th of 14 children. She had six brothers and seven sisters. They were a very close family. Her father owned a farm and grocery store, where she worked for years. She also worked in a sardine factory in Lubec at the age of 15. In her later years, she worked as a private duty aide for a woman in Lewiston, and with epileptic children. She enjoyed a lot of hands-on activities including sewing, cooking, picking berries and crossword puzzles. She babysat for many of her grandchildren and enjoyed singing with them. She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Mckissick; sons, Sherwood and George Farris; grandchildren, Kellie Ridley, Ken Batron, Deborah Martel, Ronald Tierney, Michelle Meyer, Quinn Tierney; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Geneva Greenlaw of Lubec and Bernadine Davis of Lynn, Mass.; and daughter-in-law, Janis Batron. She was predeceased by her husband, Guy H. Farris; children, Hollis, Durrell, Wade Batron, Harland, Milton, Phil Farris, Corrine Jones; and 11 siblings. "Al" Farris E.W. "Al" Farris E.W. "Al" Farris, 86, died Monday, March 5, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Farris. The service will be at 11 a.m. EST Wednesday at Killearn United Methodist Church, with burial at Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park. Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Timberlane Road Chapel (850-893-4177) is handling arrangements. Al was born July 26, 1920, in Indianapolis, Ind., and was a longtime resident of Tallahassee. He was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis and Florida International University. He enlisted in the Army in 1940 at Fort Harrison, Ind., attended Signal Corps School and became a high-speed radio operator assigned to the 51st Signal Battalion. In 1941, he was transferred to MacDill Air Force Base. During World War II, Al served in Panama, Galapagos and China. He elected to make the Air Force his career and was assigned to OSI (Office of Special Investigations), where he was a cryptologist. His military tours took him to Alask! a and France. After his military retirement as a major, he began a second career as an agent with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, from which he also retired. He was a charter member of Killearn United Methodist Church and a member of the Retired Officers Association, the Masons and the Scottish Rite. Other survivors include his daughter, Kathy Hodge, and her husband, Burt, of Tallahassee, and three granddaughters, DeAnne, Amy and Jessica Hodge.
