My paternal grandmother always told my Dad that he was a cousin of "Bo" Faris, the baseball player who died in WWII . I have found some information on his family, 1 Henry T. Does Westview Cem have records that might list his parents? I found only one Henry in the 1900 Richmond Co, GA census records. He was living with William Darracott or Garricott b. 1873 and wife Sarah age (28), 3/18/18(72) on the census image. Henry Farris is listed as a step-son, age 11, b. 8/1888. No census available to check to see who Sarah was married to, but she would have been 16 in 1888. Howell Farris, son of James and Rebecca Farris had a daughter Sallie listed in the 1870 and 1880 census b. ca 1864-1866. Dates don't work with the Sarah above, if the dates are correct. They were difficult to read. Any of you Farris folks out there know these folks. Billie Glad to see that you are making progress with Howell and his family. I have added the 1880 census to supplement the 1870 one I already had. Since you are feeling better about being connected to our Farris familly of Virginia and Kentucky I thought you might want some info on Elisha Farris (Faris) the ancestor of Howell and his father, James Farris. My wife and I just got back from trip to Virginia. We came back through Gate City, VA where Elisha Farris lived (nearby). If you have read my notes you will remember that Elisha, his wife, Mary, and a daughter, Mary Farris Livingston, were killed by marauding Cherokee Indians, led by Captain Robert Benge in 1791. If you would like those notes I can send them to you. I found the approximate location of his "station," which is about 2 miles east of Moccasin Gap. Moccasin Gap allows traffic to travel between Kingsport, TN and Gate City, VA). The old road between Bristol VA and Gate City ran along present day US 58 / US 421. We traveled it from Bristol. It is a very windy, old highway. By cooincidence, I had to get gas only a couple of miles form Elisha's homesite (which I didn't know at the time). PS. Actually Howell had two brothers as great grandfathers: Elisha Farris, father of Nancy Farris John Esom Farris, father of Nimrod Farris Nancy Farris married Nimrod Farris, so they were first cousins.
