My (male cousin's) DNA sample was received on Aug 6th, and I am anxiously awaiting the results. The company's website says 3 1/2 weeks, but the when the payment was made the gentleman on the phone said 2 weeks. I was wondering how long it took you all to get your results? Just curious. And impatient, I guess! Hi. You might inquire at the Wisconsin State Historical Society in Madison, Wisconsin. The society has some early records and recollections of this area, particularly in the Draper Reports. In fact, if you have a big genealogical library in your area, you might find a printed version of Draper there. Good luck, Trueman Farris. jfarris@execpc.com ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <FARRIS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, August 12, 2007 2:01 PM Subject: [FARRIS] moccassin gap, aug 26th 1791 > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: pinkfishie18 > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.farris/2776/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > looking for what exactly happened at moccassin gap, russell co, virgina. > charlotte mary farris(vaughn), mary livingston(farris) were killed on the > same day and time. i found one account that they were attacked by indians > but it's really kind of confusing the way the person wrote it. if any one > has any infor that would be great! > > charlotte mary vaughn m elisha farris 1760abt > > Important Note: > The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am new to this list. The name I'm researching is now spelled Ferriss but at one time was spelled Farris & Phares. I am researching Thomas Farris born in MD in the middle 1700s & died in ON, Canada in the early 1800s. His son Joseph was also born in MD between 1764-1769 and died in ON. I think they migrated from Emmitsberg, Frederick Co., MD to Cumberland Valley Twp., Bedford Co., PA as Thomas was listed in tax lists & the militia. Strangely, Thomas & Joseph migrated to Grosse Ile, MI and to Upper Canada as United Empire Loyalists. They obtained land in Canada as Loyalists as evidenced by their land petitions. I think Thomas' father was also Joseph who was born in Mansfield, Burlington Co., NJ abt 1708 and migrated to Philadelphia. He then was part of the Marsh Creek Settlers in Adams Co., PA before ending up in Frederick Co., MD. He was married to Isabella and he had another son John who stayed in Frederick Co., MD. These connections are not completely proven but look very possible. Is anyone else researching these families? Linda

Burial: Westover Memorial Park They were my gg-grandparents, and altho I was born in 1943, and lived just across the river in North Augusta, Aiken Co. SC, I never met them. I don't remember meeting any of the siblings of my grandmother either. According to my research, this family goes back to James Farris md. Rebecca Unknown to me. According to Elvin E. Farris <mefarris@bellsouth.net>, 961 Rosemont Drive Panama City, FL 32405, this family line goes back to [Ian Esom Farris] md [Emily Jane Cameron]. They are in brackets because I have no documentation for them. Anyway, thought I would post a few of my family obits that connect to my Faris line thru Laura Elizabeth Inglett, daughter of Howell Farris and Elizabeth Parker, finally connected through the generous work of a researcher in the Augusta Ga area who finally found them in the 1880 census under the name of Fairest Howell, with Howell being listed as last name. An good example that sometimes we need a line by line, very open minded search of these records. The following are obits or death notices or info. on each of the children. If anyone knows anything else about the children, I would appreciate a contact at tjones@camden.net or 2321 Moultrie Rd, Camden, SC 29020. ----------------------------------------------------- My Dad's Uncle Bennie was the grandfather of a newfound cousin, Rebecca Hass, who sent me the following obit from the the Athens GA paper: Athens, GA: Bennie W. Inglett, 96, of 104 Alpine Way died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997. A native of Augusta, Mr. Inglett was a son of the late John and Laura Farris Inglett and the widower of Bessie Ann Thompkins Inglett. An Army veteran of World War I, Chief Inglett went to work with the Augusta Water Works Department in the early 1920s before moving to the Augusta Police Department. About 18 months later, he transferred to the Fire Department and in 1947 retired as chief after 25 years of service. He then managed the Maxwell House Apartments in Augusta for several years, and later operated a cattle farm, the Inglett Farm & Cattle Ranch, for 15 years outside Augusta. He then moved to Athens and was a major stockholder and vice president of Richard's Shoes Inc., a cooperation operated by his son Richard. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Memorial Park with Dr. Jim Burkett officiating. Survivors include two sons, Charles D. Inglett, Port Orange , Fla., and Richard Inglett, Athens; (Predeceased son Robert Inglett California, twin to Richard), six grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. ------------------------------------------- Bennie's sister was my grandmother: Her obit was not filled out by any family interested in family preservation. I had nothing to do with this one! So I will make additions below the obit. Note the obit does name her brother Bennie, of the obit above. The following obituary was published August 24, 1996 in "The Augusta Chronicle" Mrs. Carrie Inglett Smith, 98, died Thursday August 22, 1996 at Forest Lake Manor Nursing Home. Private Services were held. Mrs. Smith, a lifelong resident of Augusta, was a homemaker and a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church. Survivors include a son (my Dad) William H. Smith, Jr. , Camden, SC; two daughters - Marian S. Pittman, Martinez and Vera S. Hughes, Augusta; a brother Bennie Inglett, Athens, Ga.; and nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Westminister Presbyterian Chruch, 4303 Wheeler Rd., Martinez 30907. Friends may call at Platt's Funeral Home, North Belair Rd., Augusta, Ga. She was the wife of William Henry Smith, Sr., and the daughter of John and Laura Elizabeth Farris Inglett. At the time of her death, Uncle Bennie was the only surviving sibling. -------------------------------------- Obit of another brother - Warren Thedron Inglett, from a clipping I found in the Bible of my grandmother, Carrie Lee Inglett Smith, his sister ,has no date, but states: Wallace T. Inglett, 71, 710 Gary Dr, died Saturday in a Richmond Co. hospital. The funeral will be held at 2 p, Monday at Poteet Funeral Home, Green Street Chapel with the Rev. Hilton C. Garrett officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park. Mr. Inglett was a lifelong resident of Augusta. He was retired from the Ga. Dept. of Labor and was a member of Louis L. Battey Post, American Legion. He was a member of First Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II [I think this should be WW I]" Survivors include on brother, Bennie W. Inglett, Athens Ga., and one sister, Mrs. Carrie Inglett Smith, Augusta. Pallbearers will be the Rev. Jack Herrington, Emory Sayer, Forrest Johnson, Wayne Wortham, Joe Blanchard and Henry Morris. {I have not yet visited the cem. or Poteet Funeral Home to see what I could find out.] ------------------------------------------- The oldest child of Laura Elizabeth Farris Inglett was a daughter Margaret Elizabeth Inglett (1890 -1977) An obituary found in the Bible of Carrie Inglett Smith, her sister gives the following info: [no date on the newspaper clipping) Mrs. Daniel (Margaret Inglett) O'Connell, 304 Barbara Rd., died Monday at her residence. Graveside services will be held 11 am today in West View Cemetery with the Rev. Julian Turner officiating. Mrs. O'Connell, a native of Augusta, was a Baptist. Survivors include Two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Gauker and Mrs. Dorothy Jennings, Augusta; one sister, Mrs. Carrie Smith, Augusta; and two brothers: Wallace Inglett, Augusta; and Bennie Inglett, Athens Ga. Friends may call at the residence or Poteet Funeral Home, Green St. I found this published in the Wed. April 6, 1977 issue of the Augusta Chronicle. ------------------------------------------------------------ Another daughter moved to New Mexico. The following is what I have on her: Augusta Chronicle, Sept 12, 1972: Mrs. Bertha Lasater Funeral services were held Monday in Albuquerque NM for Mrs. Bertha Inglett Lasater, sister of four Augustans who died Friday in Albuquerque after a bried fillness. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Helen Harwood Iden, Albuquerque, two sisters, Mrs. Margaret O'Connell and Mrs. Carrie Lee Smith and two brothers, Bennie Inglett and Wallace Inglett, all of Augusta. More information is found in a clippling from Albuquerque NM newspaper published Sept 9, 1972, found in my grandmother's Bible. Bertha Mae Lassater was an active member of First Church of Christ, Scientist. [500 Richmond Pl NE, Albuquerque, NM] An Albuquerque resident since 1930, she died Sept 8, 1972 at an Albuquerque hospital after a short illness. She was the widow of O. W. Lasater. Mrs. Lasater moved to Albuquerque from Santa Fe. She was born in Augusta Ga., said her son-in-law, Lawrence Iden. She lived at 2901 Euclid Ne. Survivors: Mrs. Lasater is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Iden; twp brothers Wallace Inglett of both of Augusta. Funeral services wil be held at Strong-Thorne Mortuary [Obituary, Sept 9, 1972 The Abiquerque ?] -------------------------------------------------------- The other child in the family , Henry Hardy Inglett, died at 2 yrs. According to Elliott's Funeral Home records cost was charged to John Inglett and place of residence at the time was 1497 Silcox St. In a Christmas card to Wm. H. Smith, Jr and family in 1967, Aunt Maggie OConner stated that Henry Hardy was buried in Ft. Gordon cemeteries #7. I have visited the old Inglett cemeteries now located on Ft. Gordon Army Base, Augusta, Richmond Co, GA and photographed all the Inglett tombstones. I cannot find the picture of Henry Hardy's right now, and did not source the dates I entered at the time, but think these were from the tombstone "Henry Hardy Inglett 1904 - May 26, 1906", Cem. #7, Pinetucky, Richmond Co. Ga. now owned by the US Govt, Ft. Gordon Army Reservation, Augusta, GA. --------------------------------------- Any further information on any of the Inglett's would be appreciated. Because of the sharing of Steve Hardin, I have info. on lots of the other lines, and I have gotten obits and records from the Augusta Chronicle of lots of them. Billie Jones tjones@camden.net
