    1. [FARRIS-L] Faris book (John Faris <jefaris@olywa.net>
    2. Judy Farris
    3. John! Does the book give any indication of where the FARRIE family came from?? I try to trace any leads to the origins of our surname and have found the names JAMES FARIE, FERRIS,FARRIS, ALLAN FARIE, Esq. all associated with a castle called FARME located (ruins now) in Rutherglen, a suburb of Glascow, Scotland. I find the name FARRIS on a c1460 map (rough sketch), near Rutherglen, drawn by an English spy.I find JAMES and ALLAN FARIE listed in histories of Rutherglen as owners of FARME before 1790. I find the name FERRIS on a (poorly drawm) map dated 1596 and a tower which is proberly FARME. I find FARRIE, Esq. at (owner) FARME on a 1795 city map of Rutherglen. Histories of Rutherglen describe FARME as a ancient castle donated c 1306-29 to Robert Stewart by King Robert 1.Only the CASTLEKEEP remains which was incorporated into a (modern?) house. Hope this rings some bells!!! Dick Farris in Atlanta
