Rutherford (TN) Courier January 17, 1999 John Pharis Services for John Henry Pharis, 84, of Dunaway Chapel Road in Lascassas, who died Friday, Jan. 8, at his home were scheduled for Tuesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery, with Paul Norwood officiating. He was a native of Arkansas, and the son of the late Deckerd and Martha Jane Carter Pharis. He is survived by his wife, Virgie Pharis; four daughters, Anna Fong of Mexico, Barbara Pharis of Smyrna, Carol Simpson of Lascassas, and Monda Pacheco of California; three sons, J.C. Pharis, Gary Pharis and Darrell Pharis, all of California; two brothers, Orville Pharis and D.L. Pharis; and a sister, Lois Ballard, all of Arkansas; 17 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Pharis was a retired farmer and member of the Church of Christ.

He was the son of Bell Pharris of Gainesboro and the late Sam Pharris. He is survived by his mother; his wife, Barbara Fritz Pharris; four sons, Marty Pharris of Murfreesboro, David Beard, Willis Pharris Jr. and Sam Pharris, all of Gainesboro; a daughter, Melanyee Scott of Murfreesboro; six brothers, Clarence, Fred, Charles, Joe and Doyle Pharris, all of Smyrna, and Bill Pharris of Nashville; and three sisters, June West of Cookeville, and Linda Williams and Betty Carver, both of Gainesboro. A retired heavy equipment mechanic, Mr. Pharris was a resident of the Stone community of Jackson County. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean conflict.

Crystal: Could you see if you have anything on the marriage of Anderson CRABTREE and Mariah FARRIS. Anderson lived in Vigo Co, IN in 1854, married Mariah in 1855 and lived in Schuyler Co, MO in 1856. So I don't know whether they were married in IN, IL or MO. Word I have received is that they were married in November 1855. This is my great Grandparents. She was born Sept 26, 1938, in Sibley IA to Alvin and Margaret CONWAY STROUTH, and spent her early life in the Ashton community. She was graduated from St Joseph's Catholic School in Ashton in 1956. She lived in Omaha and Oklahoma City before she moved to California in 1973. She moved to Topeka in 1978. Mrs Faris was a secretary many years for several companies including Omaha Mutual, Skinner of Omaha and Max Factor Cosmetics. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was married to Paul FARIS May 19, 1973, in Hollywood CA. He was an invalid many years and she provided home care until several weeks ago when he entered a Topeka care home after he suffered a stroke. He survives. Other survivors include her parents, Alvin and Margaret STROUTH, Ashton IA; brothers, Marvin STROUTH, Ashton IA, Don STROUTH, Bettendorf IA, David STROUTH, Juneau AK, and Tom STROUTH, Topeka; and a sister, Carol FULTZ, Ashton IA.
