    1. [FARRIS-L] Orange Farris (sp.?)
    2. Looking for information on ANY Orange Farris (or Ferris?) who married a Jabez Lumbert (or variation thereof). They were married in 1775 in Barnstable, MA Does anyone know what happened to them after they married? we think they moved off of Cape Cod and into southeastern Ma. but not certain of this. we are hoping to connect them to a Deborah Lumbert (again or variation) who married a Charles DeMaranville. We know Deborah and Charles were in Freetown, MA before removing to N.H. Nobody seems to know where Deborah came from or who her parents were. it is interesting to note here that Charles and Deborah named two of their children Jabez and Orange. coincidence? Thank you, John Bedard

Handed down direct from father to son, deeds to property had not been changed from 1860's til 1968. (family still at same property) William Alexander Faries Pyle; son of Margaret Sargent Faries Pyle (generation #6 as per chart) is now in his 90's. Told story years ago that a branch of our family living around Swarthmore, PA, had traced the family back through some Mills (wool & Knitting) in Ireland to Scotland. Said one member of the family was an Armorer to Mary Queen of Scots. He claims the name was derived from the word Farrier-meaning "worker of metals". I have never seen a Family Crest or Coat of Arms....from Lex Faries (funeral home) Update-coat of arms, azure (blue) background with golden anchor. Funeral Home-still in Smyrna Delaware. FARIES FUNERAL DIRECTORS Background-Alexander Faries was carpenter and was asked to make so many coffins that he became an undertaker. The generations after him carried on the business til today. (1999) Old records are there in the office in Smyrna, and I have copied as many as I can find. I will need to get to the Dover office and copy any Faries burials they might have. (There are now two funeral homes-one in Smyrna and the other in Dover) We have copy of will for Alexander #3 gen, and a paper stating that in 1727, Robert Faries, an Irishman, bought land in DE, left it to his son William who left it to his son David B. (from Lex paperwork) Lex did say he had family in South Carolina. Will need to get together again on that. Most of Our family of Faries lived in Delaware and Pennsylvania. My father was Raymond McAfee Faries-born in Chester, Pa. His father was Alfred D. Faries-born in DE (married Lizzie McAfee) His father was Charles B. Faries-born in DE (mar. Sussanah Turner) His father was Alfred D Faries-born in DE (married Rebecca ?) (1870 census-DE) I have children of Alfred (1832) and Rebecca (1833) Charles B.-17 yrs. (1853)have info Sapphoney (?)-14 yrs (1856) no other info found George W.-12 yrs (1858)have info Alfred D-10 yrs (1860)have info Theodore-6 yrs (1864)have info Rebecca-4 yrs. (1866) Lenova-1/2 yr (1870)have marriage info 1850 census DE I have Alfred (19 yrs-1831) living with Samuel (22 yrs-1828) and Margaret (20 yrs-1830) Anna E. (1 yr-1849) and Elizabeth Boyen? (40 yrs-1810) all in the same house. Looks like Sam & Maggie were married and had the little one Anna. Other lady might be mother of Maggie? Might Alfred and Samuel be brothers? 1880 census, DE I have Charles B. Faries and Susannah Turner family (My Great Grandparents) Also have the 1900 census for this family. Still hunting one child out of six. I have not found first Alfred D. Faries's parents yet...but I have reason to think they might have come off Samuel line from chart above. Due to the fact that it looks like Alfred and Samuel (1850 DE census) were living together and were both "blacksmiths" in a shop together. Brothers? In the 1870 DE census we have Alfred (father) a "blacksmith" and his son Charles B working in his shop. My Grandfather was a blacksmith also....and his first born son was Charles. Then we have the gap, and I am looking for the father and mother of Alfred Dexter Faries born about 1831-32 (depending on month) So, without verification; we all come off the boys in generation #3 and earlier. The dates for generation #3 (as per marriage date of 09/12/1783) has us all falling into that time period. The name repeats are really a big clue! My cousin Gail and I have another whole family of Josuha and Zackariah Faries who settled in Conn as part of the origninal american colonies (1600's) and a son John took his family to DE and we have John's gang in New Castle DE. I feel if we all can share what we have, we will continue to put together out relationship to this Faries (Ferris, Faris, Phariss, etc) Clan. We have family in Bermuda, as some of the Faries boys came down through that way and settled there. We are seafarin folks and travelers. So let's compare what we have already, do some more diggin' and sharing, and see where we wind up. Thank you for your attention to this Carole Faries Werner and Gail Faries (same family)

    3. Greetings, fellow Farrises. I am looking for the ancestors of James Isaac PHARISS (born Oct. 4, 1830 in Tennessee, died February 10, 1889 in Cherokee County, AL). His parents may have been Samuel FARIS and Martha (Elizabeth?) OSBORN, who were both born in Tennessee and died in Arizona. His siblings may have been William, Emeline, Handsberry, Houston, John and Nancy. I was given this information from a fairly unreliable source and would very much like to corroborate and expand upon it. Thank you. Mary Ann Raley-Hudson
