Hi Thelma, It is so good to hear from you again! Farris Files is now $15/yr for 3 issues. I started a new job and just don't have the time for more, as it is, I am usually late getting them out. My address is 5015 Montclair Dr. NW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52405. Sandy McIntire
I failed to point out that the Alexander (died 1824) and James (died 1802) were brothers. Hope this helps as we untangle this family! Wanda
I maintain a list of Farris/Pharis/Phares researchers with names, addresses, ancestors, etc. If anyone would like a copy I can send online if you have a program that can handle .dbf files (MS Works, etc.) or I will snail mail you one. I would also like to add your names, addresses and the Farris family you are interested in. We have almost 400 researchers so far and many have made valuable contacts through the list since I send a copy to all new Farris/Pharis contacts. We also have a Farris Newsletter so if anyone would like to submit queries and do not wish to give their snail mail addresses on this list, they may email me directly. Many of our readers do not have online capability so you will be reaching a new audience. Sandy

The date of his death being June 6, 1824 In Many old wills I have found that the one doing the writing spelled the name the way it sounded to them. On all the old grave markers I have seen it is spelled Faires, Alexander, Jesse, James, and William at Old Unity and James and John at Bethel Presbyterian Church, S.C. are spelled Faires.

There seems to be much confusion among those researching the Alexander Faris/Farris/Faires lines of York County, SC. Betsy Faris has suggested that I post the wills of the different Alexanders in hopes that this will help clarify the confusion. I will post each will in a separate post. Lillie, I would love to exchange information with you. Mostly though I just have information on Gideon's son's William, Robert, Samuel & your Thomas. I would like to have more information on Gideon's daughters Jane McCully & Mary Callum, I have nothing on those two. As far as Gideon's father William I don't have much on him at all, I only know that possibly his name was William. Also like to find out if Gideon had more siblings besides a Robert, Samuel and William. Dorman Farris and I are working on Gideon's father who was possibly William & who his children might have been as we speak and I will let you know as soon as more information is found. Dorman descends from Gideon's grandson John K. Farris who is a brother to my Levi Farris. I will email you privately with a gedcom if you like of my William's descendants. hello all of you out there! Yes I am new to this mailing list and have already posted my biggest Farris problem here on the list. no responses so far however. But I am still hoping. I seem to be the only one that has an interest in a Farris from OLD New England here. Everyone else seems a bit more south. My interest still lies with an Orange Farris who married Jabez Lumbert in Barnstable, MA in 1755. There was an Orange (Rogers) Cartwright, (widow of Nicholas Cartwright of Nantucket) who married a Morris Ferris in 1715 but do not know if it is the same person. would think she would have been going by her former married nameof Cartwright if that was the case. Hi John, Yes, Wm Jr md Martha Clardy and had a bunch of kids. Some information on them at the Winchester Public Library in their verticle file. I think they tie into the Henrico and New Kent co Va Fariss family but don't know just how. He may be the Wm Fariss in Buckingham co Va. Just not sure. Then I have seen some say that this line is Irish and Wm Sr is the immigrant. You have your work cut out for you to prove who his parents are? Mike Barr

Since at least appx. 1830-40, my branch has insisted on spelling the name "FARISS." The earliest Fariss/Faris I can trace is WILLIAM FARISS, who is buried in LaFayette, Walker Co., GA. He died in 1835, said to have been 85 years old at that time, which means he was born ca. 1750. He claimed service in the Revolutionary War & participated in Georgia Land Lotteries on that basis, but was denied a pension for "having served less than six months in person." Before Walker Co., he & family lived in Rabun & Habersham counties of GA, those beginning appx. 1820. Prior to GA, they lived in the Pendleton District of SC. Secondary sources name wife as "MARY," possibly "MARY JANE MONTGOMERY." Their youngest son was SAMUEL, 1797-1862, from whom I am descended. Secondary sources name WILLIAM JR as the oldest son, and that sometime after 1800 he moved to middle Tennessee, somewhere near Tullahoma. Sound familiar to anyone? John Fariss
Sharon, I noticed in your message to Lori that you list Gideon and William Farris. I am descended from Gideon's son Thomas who married Anne (Nancy) McNew. I have very little information on Gideon, William (his father), or William (his) son. What I do have is information on the descendants of Thomas and Nancy.
