All these Jameses are from the area of Bluffton county, SC which is just north of Savannah, Georgia many of this Farris family are buried in Savannah.
Barbara, That John Farris doesn't seem to tie in with my John \Farris. Isn't it a shame there are so many Johns and no middle names? Dear Hope, I still have Farris relatives living in Randolph Co., Mo. If you would give me the given names of your relatives I may be able to help you. I have two cousins, one 90 years old and sharp as a tack. He could set me straight right away. Thank you for answering. I think it is highly likely that your Mariah Christine may be a sister of my John Farris but as I have no clue to any of his family yet, I really don't know. Will you send me any information you may have on her, her brothers and sisters and parents? This is what I am looking for. Who is Betsey Faris? How do I get in touch with her? She has information on the Alexander Faires, Sr. line. I really am puzzled at this point about this line, as we have information on it also......we are looking for our connection to this group. If Betty Faris is out there, or someone has her information or snail mail address, would you please be so kind as to send it along to me? itapa@enter.net Our line is: my Grandfather was Alfred Dexter Faries (DE and PA) married Lizzie McAfee his father was Charles B. Faries (DE) blacksmith and farmer married Susannah Turner (1880, 1900 census) His father was Alfred D. Faries (DE) blacksmith and farmer married Rebecca (1870 census) 1850 census lists: all to be born in DE Samuel Faris-22 yrs. (Blacksmith) Margaret Faris-20 yrs. Ann E. Faris-1 yr Alfred Faris-19 yrs. (Blacksmith) Elizabeth Boyen/Bosen ? 40 yrs. Alfred and Samuel might be brothers or cousins. We might come off this line of Samuel. At this point it is anybody's guess. Most of our family was born in DE/PA and moved on from there. We have the information from Alexander and Janet James family who married 09/05/1765 at Emmaneul Church in DE We have the connection with the line of Alexander Faries from those boys.....but have been unable to connect with one of the other brothers as of yet. On this Alex and Janet Chart it lists James as the father and Robert as the grandfather. No other information for those two. We also have a line from William Faries who left New Castle DE with his son Robert and went to Ohio. (Butler Co. 1786) There is a line there, also trying to connect with the DE lines. They are working it from Colorado. The male Faries lines have very strong genes, as most of the pictures from different men, resemble each other very much. Any more leads would be a blessing. Thanks Carole Faries Werner itapa@enter.net

All these repeating first names are terribly suggestive, aren't they? And at the same time, frustrating! Several William's, all born in the same rough time span such that they could be neither father-son, and what parent would give his children the same first name? Same thing with John's, James', Samuel's, and often the girls too! My grandparents (SAMUEL & SUSIE) named their daughter Susie, one of his aunts was a Rebecca as was his grandmother, and one of his great aunts was a Jane as was his great-grandmother. Well, there is too much date discrepency for this Samuel, Jane, James, etc. to be in my direct line, and I have original source data indicating my line left SC about 1822 for GA. Certain traits are passed on in families, however--are you familiar with Bowen theory on family systems, or the work of Friedman? The repetition of certain names, and of many of the same names, is suggestive of a close connection and an influential tradition-maker, whether these folk were originally kin (biologically) or as in a close knit clan. Also, I know virtually nothing of descendents of my g-g-g-gf's eldest son WILLIAM the Younger (except that he went to TN) or other possible male issue, much less any brothers of WILLIAM the Elder. Keeps us thinking, doesn't it?
