    2. My line goes back to Charles Pharis or Faris md to a Mary Sanders? who is prob from a Quaker family. Charles Pharis is born 1730 to 1740 VA md Mary Sanders probably in Hanover co Va lived in Louisa co Va spelled name both ways in alternating documents in the courthouse. One entry in the Douglas Register which is OLD Goochland co Va has a Charles Pharis md to ------- in 1751. Apparently her name is not legiable. A close relative of Charles is John Faris who md Lucy Harlow. Charles and John apparent to be brothers to me. After Charles died in 1779 then Mary re md a George Gillespie and lived in Amherst co Va. Her children from Faris also are from Albermarle, Louisa, Fluvanna, and Amherst co VA. I will check the Douglas Register for Samuel Pharis entries. Where in Tn and MO was your line. I think your line is part of the Doctor P. Faris or Pharis line in Barry co MO. He lived in the same area as my James N. Faris or Pharis and at one time I thought they were closely related however D.P. Faris obituary provided the real story. Seems odd we keep crossing links in the same counties and in different states. 2. Hi Mike; i dont have your Winfrey in my data, but.....if any of your people spelled thier name PHARRIS...PHARISS...PHARIS..etc...you are most likely related to line family line...I have not found the spelling with a F, only in some very old documents, but was also spelled several other ways....it was like the writer did not know how to spell it.. My Phariss line before TX was from MO....then TN, and back to VA...some of my line went also to Ark...and OKL...I would love to try and find out what the connection you have from Farris to Pharris, etc...maybe we can connect here some where... Doesyour line have Samuel Phariss 1742 VA , m to Elizabeth also of VA...( we have not been able to find proof of Samuel's birth date and place...this info is from an old family bible, given to Samuel ...it is not known if this was his birth date or the day it was given to him..[the bible].... let me know what you think on this...looking forwardto corrisponding with you....jenell

    2. To Jenell, Is your Wymbert Pharris any relationship to Winfield Scott Farris? He md twice. He lived in Van Zandt also. My e mail is mgbarr@aol.com. Would like to ask you a couple of questions? Are your folks from MO before Texas. My folks seems to spelled their name both with the Pharris and Farris spelling. Scott Farris was the son of James N. Farris and Arva Sina (Anderson) Farris. They lived in Barry co Mo from 1856 to 1872 and before that in Coffee co Tn. Mike Barr

    3. This past friday at the Delaware Historical Society; Gail and I went though papers like a white tornado, and got copies of as much as we could from personal file folders of the family of Faries and in laws....gathering as much as we could, to review at a later time...after paying the copying fee, we went to Staples and made another copy for our files. Adding it to the mountains of papers we already had...and didn't file yet :} A brief and scanty over-view of the files has produced the following for all of you to muse upon. (I'm sure it will be exciting! as it was to me) There is a paper in the files handwritten by: (dated 1-8-1980) Cynthia C. Faries note: I have dates etc. 2621 Kiawah Ave. at home, but do Columbia, South Carolina not have them with me as I mY gREAT GREAT GRANDPARENTS Alexander Faries (Faires, etc) born- 1740 (50)? died- 1824 married Jennet James born- died- 1837 * his original will on file York Co Court House, S.C. Both are buried at Old Trinity Presbyterian Cemetery, Fort Mill, S.C. "My family tradition says Alexander married a Delaware Lady- He was in Delaware Milita during Revolution, I have a copy showing he failed to answer roll call, he served under General Thomas Sumter in upper S.C. during the Revolution and was in the battle of Fishing Creek, S.C. where he lost his gun, was imprisoned at Camden, S.C. and escaped." Above can be verified in the cemetery S.C. State Archives and "Johnsons' Traditions (etc.) of the Revolution in the South" & York County S.C. courthouse. There are 3 Alexander Faries'; mine in S.C. 1790 Census (one mentioned from above) and the second his son Alexander killed while working on Railroad. The third Alexander was probably a cousin (1st) who served in American Revolution, this one has a pension file in U.S. Archives, he married Elizabeth Strain and moved to Tenn. about 1820 (obit in Co., Tenn) (it says over, and the lady who made our copys did not turn it over) will get the back next time we go---hopefully this friday. :} We have a picture of a Rev James C. Ferris. There was a family tree chart that started with Robert Faries d-1749 a native of Ireland shows sons William and John William d-1760 m- Jane Steele d-1795 Jane m.-ca. 1761 2nd m. Isaac Alexander (1734-1789) children: Samuel Faries 1746-1814 unmarried Margaret Faries 1748-1831 m. David Black **** no more Faries males in that line. Jacob Faries 1744-1818 m Kezia Sharp 1750-1801 **** children: Sarah F. Moore Margaret Faries 1768-1851 m William James Jacob Faries m Susan Wham (?) **** The chart stops there, no children listed for Jacob and Susan ****We might have a cross reference to this line of Jacob and Susan in the Pencader Presbyterian Church notes that I copied from a book at the Dover Archives. This is the one that names Ann Faris, Jr. (Mrs. Adair) 1832. And others with ****. I have a copy of The will of Alexander Faries 09/12/1783 from the Wilmington Courthouse. Registers office file M-145 (the wording is a little different but the children and grandson and the inheritence is the same for each child. Wittnesses were hard to read.) witt: Isaac Lewis; William Faries, Joel Evans (There was an Isaac Lewis who was in the Revolutionary War and was commander over some of our Faries Boys*** see below) Two wills came off of roots web: 1. Alexander-written: 09/12/1783 same will wording a little different Probated: 08/19/1785 New Castle Co., DE 2. (Sylvia Rhodes) Will of James Faries of South Carolina written: 01/05/1802 probated 03/05/1802 lists wife and children witt: James & Richard Faires, and John Kerr (notice the change in the spelling of Faries) >From Lex's notes (Faries Funeral Directors, Inc. Looks like we are starting to pull it together gang! :} Seems this South Carolina group came off the DE group, else why would the paperwork from South Carolina be in the Faries files in DE Historical Society....and connect the names! :) Off this Delaware Faries group we also have Maryland folks. David Faries (son of Benjamin Ferris, Wilmington, New Castle DE) had a plantation in Harford Co. Maryland; named "Fallston" Gail and I have a copy of the property plan drawn by Benjamin Ferris. What can I say, except I better go over some more of the stuff we got last friday and see what else we have. Also, we have a line of Faries in Wilmington, who were disenchanted with the rules of the Presbyterian Church and they pulled out and joined the The Friends Church (Quakers) and Gail and I drove right by the meeting house and cemetery on our way to the Library in Wilmington. I will have to go back in my e mail and pull out all the ones everyone has been submitting to the Farris-rootsweb; for review and organizing. I knew gathering all this stuff would pay off someday....I do not exclude anything or anybody for any reason....if it sounds like Faries it goes in my note, and that is that. Off I go to check out the e mail, I am sure there will be lots of e mail back when all of you get a gander at this stuff! It is really cool!!! :} Carole and Gail :)
