I am looking for information on the MORDECAI FARRIS family . They are shown in Precinct 16, Blue Pond in the 1900 Dekalb County census. Mordecai FARRIS b 4/1837 and wife Missouri A. (JONES?) FARRIS b 7/1845 Sons George M. b 12/1879 and William S. Farris b 4/1882 Living in this household were two twin nephews, George Elmer and William Albert Causey b 12/1893. Can anyone help? Thanks, Joan
I have been a subscriber for a couple of weeks but this is my first posting. I am trying to get information on the following brothers. Jessee Thomas Faires born 10/19/1808 in TN (possibly Tipton Co.). First married ca. 1834, wife's name unknown. They had the following children: George H., William B., Mary J. (marr. James B. Morris), James Thos. and John A. (marr. Malinda Rickardson). All born in TN. Second marriage to Elvira Lake (father Daniel T. Lake) in Tipton Co., TN 10/24/1848. They had children: Jacob Arthur (marr. Anna L. Ray) and Susan Ann (marr. Wm. O. Bean). Family moved to Johnson Co., TX ca. 1855. Elvira died soon after and Jessee marr. Susanah C. ? in Johnson Co. on 11/25/1856. They had son Columbus W. (marr. Fannie Fleming). On 1880 census, Jessee's brother Samuel was living with them. He was born ca. 1804 in SC. Both brothers said their mother was born in SC and father in Delaware. Can anyone tie them to other SC or Delaware Faires families or provide any earlier location for Samuel?
Phyllis: Although there are several discrepancies to the facts, The information is too similar to overlook. Such as, Marshall being just across the state line from Vigo County, IN. Also, three of the children's names being Andrew Jackson, Robert and Mary. The spouses and children and siblings don't match. Do you have dates on any of these, as well as a possible marriage date on Anderson CRABTREE and Mariah FARIS? Maybe even somebody in Marshall, IL that I might contact and even get to research some marriage licenses. Please visit my webpage at: http://members.tripod.com/crabtree_tree/index.html If you go to Family Charts, it has about all the records I have. Also, if you go to Family Album, it has a picture of Anderson CRABTREE & Mariah (FARRIS- FARIS) CRABTREE. This is very interesting and I truly appreciate the info. Please keep me informed. Thank You, Ben Crabtree bcrabt3565@aol.com
I don't think so. But I have seen your material on Farris Roots and have copied it off on my files. Its a complex group. Did you ever find a county in Va that they were from? Mike Barr

Hi Ben, I think I may have some information about your Mariah Faris who married Anderson Crabtree. According to information I am researching in Clark County, Illinois (Marshall, specifically), Mariah is the daughter of Samuel Sylvester Faris (my gggrandfather ) who was born in VA. His wife's name was Mary who was also born in VA. My "brick wall" is trying to locate information from VA as to their births, parents, etc. Mariah's siblings were Robert, Andrew Jackson, Lucy Ann who married James Malcom, Jane who married William Presser (and lived in Coal City, IN), Ellen who married Whit Wilson, and my great grandfather James Alexander Farris who married Mary Ellen Mott. To my knowledge none of Mariah's line lives in Clark Co. at this time. There are descendants from Andrew Jackson, Lucy Ann, and James who still live in Clark Co. The information I have was obtained from Mr. William Lackey of Marshall whose wife is a descendant from Lucy Ann. According to Mr. Lackey's record Mariah and Anderson had at least three children: Robert, Martha J. and Mariah Belle who married a Thrasher. The Thrashers had at least two children, Floyd and Lester. Floyd married Georgia (?) and had Floyd Henry who married Leta and had Tommy Lee and Teddy Joe. Lester married Cleo (?) and had Kenneth who married a distant cousin and had Patty Kay (Sept 2, 1952); Kathy May (Jan 15, 1953); Sandra Fay (May 26, 1954); Brenda Ray (Jan 22, 1956), and Pamela Gay (Feb 23, 1959). Do any of these name mean anything to you? Please let me know if you or anyone else on the list has any information about Samuel Sylvester Faris and Mary from VA. Hope this helps you. Phyllis Risner

Sorry it took so long in getting back to you... My Phariss's were in ,mostly Lawrence Co, MO, in the 1850's on through the late 1890's, when they started to travel to Texas, some in Ark, and some cousins went on to OKL...My direct line stayed in Texas, but as i said aunts , uncles and cousin went thier own separate ways....do you think we have a connection here...I do have a lot more, names and all that....jenell
In a message dated 99-02-07 21:16:36 EST, you write: > The Census is taken every ten years. The last one was done in 1990 and I > did receive forms to complete and mail in. I have to wonder what the > return rate is and how much effort is made to get the information. I'm > afraid much information will be lost to future genealogists with regards to > the census. I have wondered about this myself. I was born in 1959, so I should have been counted in the census 4 times now. I can't say whether I was while I lived at home, but in 1980, when I lived alone, I never filled out a form or talked to a census taker. In 1990, I lived with a roommate. I remember getting a form in the mail, but it came at a particularly busy time of my life. I remember putting the form away in a drawer when it came in, expecting to fill it out later. Several months later...way past the deadline... I found the form buried under a lot of other junk in the drawer. I don't expect that either my roommate or I were ever counted for that census. I feel sorry for future generations trying to find me, but I hope they will have access to better records, maybe from the DMV or from my voter's registrations. What was that hotmail address to complain about SPAM? I deleted it, thinking I wouldn't have any use for it, and the very next message was SPAM using a hotmail address. Susan Hurt thurt@redrock.net
The Census is taken every ten years. The last one was done in 1990 and I did receive forms to complete and mail in. I have to wonder what the return rate is and how much effort is made to get the information. I'm afraid much information will be lost to future genealogists with regards to the census.
