    3. I used to get tons of spam. By this I mean ten to twenty a day. Then I bit the bullet, and got off of aol. MSN works great where I live, and I think that I have gotten a handful of spam in the last year. Also, 90% of the time a get first dial connect, and nearly 100% on the first redial. Another tip for those of you who are over 55, or have someone close that is. If you spend $5 I think to join AARP, then you can get MSN for $89 for six months. If MSN doesn't work, then talk to businesses in your area and find out what does. I tried GTE and ATT along the way. GTE was similar to AOL, and ATT a hair better, but these change from time to time (PS although I live in the Seattle area, I don't work for Microsoft. In fact I am not always a fan of their software. But MSN does seem to work. And by the way almost any alternate provider - a direct ISP - is a lots faster on the web, because it is a direct connect - doesn't go through a second layer. Hopes this helps someone. lee ----- Original Message ----- From: <Damaris8@aol.com> To: <FARRIS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 13, 1999 8:04 PM Subject: [FARRIS-L] SPAM >Hi Cousins! > >Since I joined this mailing list a short time ago, I have started receiving a >lot of spam, most of it disgusting! 3. Gail, I don't know what spam is. But when you said disgusting, I thought of my son and daughter who had aol and told me they received disgusting material and they changed providers. I have had mindspring for 10 months and I have not seen one crumb of vile, yuk material. My daughter changed to lds.com and that ended that. I would change in a heart beat. Good Luck Baguilar@mindspring.com

    2. Gail, I have been on AOL for 4 years now. I only receive mail of the disgusting kind if I go into an AOL chat room (any kind of chat). You can limit your internet mail and domains through the blocking feature, but that puts a limit on you as well, and you need to know where all the mail you want actually comes from. Report it to AOL. cheers, julie

    3. Hi Gail, I think it has to do alot with AOL. when I had AOL that is all I ever got was nasty SPAM, but after I quit using them I havent received any yet!!! (knock on wood) And I have never gotten any from the list. But AOL's address for that kind of thing is something like TOSE1@aol.com, that might not be it but it has something to do with Terms Of Service. There is a link somewhere I think for it!! Also, if you go into any of the chat rooms on AOL is when you really get them!!! Hope I could help, Crystal Wanda Rabb <wcr@netunlimited.net> wrote on Saturday February 13, 1999 at 11:02pm: >>Hi Cousins! >> >>Since I joined this mailing list a short time ago, I have started receiving a >>lot of spam, most of it disgusting! In addition, you must be a subscriber to the list in order for a post to make it through to the list. I receive quite a few unsavory spam attempts on my lists simply because the failed attempts bounce to the listowner. I don't think I have seen one actually hit the list in quite awhile, although attempts are literally made every day. If you receive spam e-mail that bothers you, send a note to the source ISP. Most ISPs have an address set up that is "abuse@ispname" (substitute the ISP name). For example, if you receive spam mail from AOL, write to "abuse@aol.com"; if you receive spam from a hotmail address, address your concern to "abuse@hotmail.com". Wanda

    1. [FARRIS-L] New information....FERRIS/FARRIS
    2. cfarris
    3. Hello everyone, I went to the library today (spur of the moment) and I looked through the 1920 census and found my family. It was very exciting to find them because I havent had any luck at all find them. But here is what I found: Enumeration District-154, sheet-8B, county-Vinton, State- Ohio, township-Richland Township South Precenct. Line-75: FERRIS, John A./Head/owned home/free/male/white/married/age- 46/read-yes/write-yes/Place of Birth-Ohio/Fathers Place of birth- Ohio/mothers place-Ohio/speak english-yes/occupation-Farmer/industry- General Farm/own account/# of farm schedule-140 FERRIS, Mary R./wife/female/white/48/married...more on her FERRIS, Hima A./son/Male/white/17/single/...also more FERRIS, William G./father/male/white/80/widow/...more on him The reason I am posting this is because It is obviously an updateto my family but also the name FERRIS...I have been asking for help try to find this family under FARRIS. So, If anyone can now help me with this new info I would gladly except it and trade info. Also I am in need of William FERRIS' wife's name!! Another thing I found strangly odd is... Hima married Ala (HUTCHISON) and there first child was Delbert FARRIS-someone did a cemetery look up for me and found his birthdate to be 1920. How is this possible when Hima was still at home? Ala being nowhere listed in the family? If anyone could help me out, please do. There is also anothe FERRIS listed on the same page as my FERRIS' FERRIS, Archie B./head/rents/male/white/24/married...more FERRIS, Mamie/wife/female/white/21/married...more FERRIS, John L./son/male/3 &9/12/Single...more This I dont beleive is a relation to my family but they are listed right after mine, and since I didnt offer anyone to look at the library while I was there Because it was spur of the moment...if that is your family email me and I will give the info to you!!! But again, if someone could help me out with this family I would greatly appreciate it! 2. Carole Werner
    3. Faries etc. Folks, I have spent the last two days going over all my paperwork. In the process I found that the spellings are different but the people are the same! And for that Phariss person who insists that we do not connect; I would like for you to check these names out: Agnes Pharas & John Kell married 09/15/1757 at Holy Trinity (or Old Swedes) Church New Castle Co, DE Ann Pharies, female, Christened 01/12/1730 First Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, Pa. Joseph Pharies Pharis, Emelie born June 16,1839 Dauphin Co., Pa. parents: Benjamin Franklin Ferris & Lorintha Elizabeth Dixon Emelie Pharis & Joseph Bamberger Parthemer married 12/22/1853 in Dauphin Co., Pa. Pharis, Mary & John Knight May 8, 1732 Philadelphia, Pa. Pharis, Mary & John Boyd cr. 1797 Westmoreland Co., Pa. Pharis, Nelly (christened) Dutch Reformed Church Adams, Straban Twp. Conewago parents: Joseph Pharis & Martha Dennis Pharris, William & Hannah McElnay married March 14,1815 York Co., Pa. So, as you can see; none of us should cast off the rest due to spelling because there are a number of spellings but in cross references they are the same people living in the same places. Just a little note for all you researchers out there from me :} Carole Faries Werner

    3. Larry FARRIS, 64 years old, R.R. 4, Spencer, Indiana, died Thursday, May 14 (1987) in Bloomington Hospital. He was born at Byer, Ohio the son of Hima and Ala Hutchison Farris. He was a retired tuck driver and a veteran of Unted States Marine Corps. (served during WWII). He is survived by his wife, Jean Millwood Farris; daughter Patricia; sons Patrick and Larry Jr.<-(my dad); stepson, James Minor of Dumfries, Virginia; brother Russell FARRIS of Spencer; four granchildren and three step grandchildren. One sister and one brother preceded him in death. Graveside services were conducted at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 18 (1987). The Reverend Dan. Mullis officiated. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of West & Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The reason I am posting this is to ask anyone with any info about these people listed to please contact me and anyone who knows where Byer, Ohio is. I also have never heard of the sister who was mentioned and I dont think my dad has either or he would have mentioned her, how would I find any info on her? The brother who is listed as preceding him in death is Delbert FARRIS, who was married to Larry's wife Jean. Can someone please do a look up in Indiana for him. I contacted the <Spencer Evening News> to get Larry's obit and he said he would look for Delberts also but it didnt come with Larry's so if someone could get to the library or something out that way could you look for it? 1. [FARRIS-L] Samuel Sylvester Farris (Faris)
    2. Hello, especially Ben and Lillie, It was great receiving your e-mail!! Here's what I know about Samuel Sylvester (also spelled Silvester in 1840 census) Farris (Faris): I found him initially in the 1840 US Census for the State of Illinois as Silvester from Clark Co. Also in Clark Co. at that time were Isaac and William, either or both of whom could be his brothers. The 1850 Census of Clark Co. Illinois listed: Sylvester, age 46, a farmer from Virginia; his wife, Mary, age 47, also from VA and the following children: Thomas, age 18, born in VA (b.1832?) Robert, age 14, born in VA (b.1833-1836?; d. Feb 22, 1902) Catharine (Jane?), age 12, born in Illinois (b.Sept 9.1836; d. May 29,1914) George W., age 9 (b. 1841-1840?) Andrew Jackson, age 7 (b. March 16, 1842; d. Dec. 8, 1923) Margaret, age 5 (b. 1844?) James (Alexander), age 4 (b. Sept. 30, 1847; d. June 17, 1913) * John, age 6, (b. 1845?) At that time they resided in Westfield Township, Clark County, Illinois. *James was my greatgrandfather. Isaac also from VA, age 39, and his family are also listed in the same census. I have located Robert, Andrew Jackson, and James death certificates in the Clark Co. Courthouse. Robert's stated that he was from Buckingham Co., VA but no parents name. Andrew Jackson's certificate says his father was Samuel, but that he was from Penn. Later information from a family tree prepared by Mr. Bill Lackey in Marshall indicates other children of Samuel/Sylvester who must have been born earlier in VA perhaps were Mariah (who married Anderson Crabtree), Lucy Ann, and Ellen. I'm still trying to sort it all out. I do know that some of the information on Mr. Lackey's tree is inaccurate concerning my great grandfather so there may be other discrepancies as well. And Ben, I would be glad to do some research for you in Clark Co. or Vigo Co. IN as some of my Faris clan lived there as well; some in Mackville which is now called West Terre Haute. There are also descendants of Andrew Jackson and possibly Robert in Dennison, Illinois which is Wabash Township, Clark Co. Lillie, I would appreciate any help that you can give me because I haven't had time to search in VA yet. Thank you for offering. Phyllis Risner, pabar123@aol.com
