I have recently come across my grandfathers obit from 1954. His states that his name was Edward Carl Faris. My grandmothers and my uncle Harolds obits say his name was Carl Edward Faris. His parents names were John & Olive (Wheeler) FARIS. I have very little info. on this side of my family. I know that my grandparents were married in South Portsmouth, KY in 1906. Edward (Carl) was born in 1885, where unknown at this time. His wife, Emma L. KIDD was born in KY in 1885. At the time of my grandfathers death he had three brothers mentioned in his obit living in Columbus, OH, Clarence, Burgess and George. I have sent for his death certificate from Franklin County, in Columbus, OH but have not yet received it. I also found out that my uncle Harold C. FARIS was born in Tulsa,Oklahoma Dec.8, 1917. I would appreciate any help I can get. I seem to be hitting a brick wall with this side of my family. I have a web page at http://mypage.goplay.com/mfaris/ It has all the information that I have there. Thanks in advance, Melinda Faris
To Sharon and Tim Day, I was thrilled to see you are doing Farris gen. in Missouri. I have been trying to connect my ggrandfather,JOHN FARRIS and wife. REBECCA DICKSON with parents and siblings. They are in Schuyler Co., Mo. in the 1850 Census. It shows he was born in Ky in 1815 and she in Pa. They had 6 girls and one boy. The boy, WILLIAM ZACHARIAH FARRIS, is my grandfather. He went to Randolph Co., Mo., married Nancy Louisa Bunnel, Jo Ann Chapman. He had 5 girls and one boy. The youngest, Mary Louis, was my mother. JOHN AND REBECCA'S girls were, Catherine M. TAYLOR, TABITHA JANE m.WRIGHT; MARY E. FARRIS, m. WILL STARR; SARAH ELLEN F.m. MARION BAYLESS; ELVIRA FRANCES; and MARTHA FARRIS m. HINTON. Another fact you may be interested in: my Aunt Lillie Farris m. Cecil Day. Their two sons are still living--one in Randolph on a farm, and the other in Marshall, Mo. My hope is to find someone with an ancestor who had a brother named John and born in Ky. They went to Indiana from Kentucky and then to Mo. Their oldest child was born in Indiana. Or maybe find descendants of the Taylors, Wrights, Bayless. or Hintons. I am keeping my fingers crossed hoping some of this connects with your infomation. I have no idea where these relatives may be, Mo. or ?. I will ask my cousins, Farris Day or Kenneth Day if they have some Day gen., too. I am seeking information on the family of Robert Lee Farris. According to an Alabama Death Certificate, Robert was born January 23, 1860 in Roanoke, Virginia. Robert died March 28, 1920, in Jefferson County, Alabama. This death certificate lists his father as John Farris, also born in Virginia. His mother was listed as being born in Virginia as well. Her given name is listed as Clementine. Her last name begins with a "B", and could be Brown or Braun. Any help would be appreciated. I have posted this before, but perhaps some of our new members can help. Jerry jcfarris@worldnet.att.net

I appreciate the feedback from those who responded regarding whether I should post obits both to the GenConnect Board and to the Farris-L. The majority felt it was adequate to post to the GenConnect Board. For those of you who prefer to receive the information via e-mail, please go to the Farris GenConnect Obits Board and you will find an area near the bottom of the page labeled "Subscribe" where you can enter your e-mail address and receive any item posted to the board. This should satisfy both camps! The direct URL to the Farris Obits page is: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/far/FarrisObits Thanks, Wanda
Wanda, I have an antiquated computer system at home that I do ALL my genealogy on, it is still using Windows3.1 (with no upgrade in the foreseeable future.). I would be unable to view the obits on Genconnect. I did sneak a peek at the Farris genconnect while at work but cannot view it on a regular basis. It appears to be a great program for systems that can handle it. Thanks Pam

As most of you are aware, I frequently post obits that I run across on folks with all variations of the Farris surname. Since we now have the Farris GenConnect board where I can post these obits, do y'all want me to continue posting them to the list as well? The beauty of the GenConnect is they are archived and conveniently accessed. There is also a feature on the board where you can request e-mail notification anytime something is posted to the list. I don't mind posting them both to the board and to the Farris-L, but I don't want to unnecessarily flood everyone's mailboxes, so I would like your feedback as to what you think. You may reply to me privately at wcr@netunlimited.net with your thoughts on this subject. Thanks! Hello fellow researchers, I decided to start a FARRIS GenConnect Board so we will have a place to enter queries, obits, wills, etc. where they can be maintained in a permanent way on the internet for all to benefit from. This board is not limited to the FARRIS spelling, but will include all variations of spelling such as Faris, Faries, Faires, Ferris, Phares, Pharis, etc. PLEASE ..... let's make this a success by sharing all of our information with others. Go through all of those files and pull out wills, deeds, obits, etc. and post them to the board. I have created a Farris Surname Page which links to the Farris GenConnect and my goal is to have this page to be "Farris Central" so to speak. If you have a personal homepage where you have genealogical information on your Farris family, I would like to place a link on this page to it. Please e-mail me privately at wcr@netunlimited.net with the URL. Or if you know of other web sites that would be appropriate to link to, please submit those. I will welcome any suggestions of ways to improve the web site, so feel free to send me your comments. Hello everyone, I would like to remind everyone to be sure to put the appropriate subject in the SUBJECT field on your messages to the Farris-L. For example, it would be helpful to put the name of the person and a location that pertains to your message such as: William Faris, born 1800, TN Many of the subscribers to our list receive hundreds of e-mails per day and simply scan the list by the subject field. It's easy miss important messages when the appropriate subject has not been entered. Thank you for your participation in the Farris-L.....it's working together well that makes this list so great!
