    1. Re: [FARRIS-L] Re: William and/or David Faries will
    2. More stuff; If this book is correct The Faris Family of Wahington Co. Ind. William Farrie/Faries who arrived 1772 died 1805 descen from a Martyre David Farrie of Scotland who had a son David II. William Farrie changed his name between 1774 1789. According to land documents of 1768 fours before William of 1772 arrived there was already a Farris family in York S.C. in Fishing Creek the 2nd William went to Rocky Creek S.C., the book helps to a point but still is a little confussing. Also a couple of months ago on the GenForum LaNell Farris Pappas printed out stuff on a Henry Farris that was here before 1761, she mentioned 5 being 5 brothers but only mentioned 2 a Henry and Peter who sold some land to a David Farris in Lunnenburg Co. Va. and also listed Henry's five children >Thomas b. 1709 >James Esom > 1722 >Joseph b.1725 >Charles b.abt. 1729 >Jacob b. 1729 >William b.(?) I think this the possibly the 1st William The list I got from Buster shows William Father was David, is this the David that purchased the land from Henry and his brother Peter I mentioned earlier in 1761. This stuff is cool , confussing but cool sometime you feel like Sherlock Holmes trying to figure this stuff out. I need to find someone that will go to work for me so I can stay home and play with this Stuff. See you Guy's Pete

    2. Hi Kurt; Haven't talked to you in awhile. Have you ever got Dale Cooks list? He sent me his list about the same time you sent Moses Picture. Are you two related? He is also related to Moses T., anyway his list shows Moses senior's father was Edward T. who was born 1763, Ireland arrived in York S.C. 1785 which was after this misterious William. If this this book is correct Faris Family of Washinton co. Ind., this William wasn't a Farris anyway he was a Farrie, this is the one that died in 1805, I have his will.He changed his name between 1774 and 1778, when he arrived in Dec. 1772 there was already a William in York Co. according to land transfers of 1768 this is the one they keep calling the other William I believe he's the 1st William. The William who died 1805 descened down from a David Farrie of 16th century Ireland, if this book is correct. Also on the GenForum a few months ago a LaNell Farris Pappas printed outsomething out of another book by Mrs. McPherson "Nation Builders" 5 brothers came to America from Whales on 5 May 1761 Henry and Peter Farris sold land to David Farris, Lunnenburg C. Va. children of Henry >Thomas b.1709 >James Esom B. 1722 >Joseph B. 1725 >Charles b. abt. 1729 >Jacob b.1729 >William b.(?) is this the other William ? My first list showed that Moses Father was a William who's father was a David, maybe Edward T. father was a David or a William. We Know that there was already a Farris Family in York before the William Farrie/Faries of 1772 arrived , Our line is pretty good up thru Moses then it goes to hell, I'm not sure like you where he ties in .You, Dale Cook , Donna Houge and myself are from the same line and we're all stuck on Moses. Don't give up the ship ! Pete

    2. Have you ever thought there were two men named William and each had a son named David. This is a common occurrence in many of my lines. Just a thought. I have yet to determine how this line is connected to my line, Moses, John W. and Samuel W. Faries from York County, SC. I'm sure there is some common ancestor. Kurt Matheson Greenville, SC

    2. This is the same William that had me going in Circles for a year.My Dads cousin gave me list up to this William then everthing went Goofy. My list shows William was married to Agnus Cowan not a Nancy, I have a copy of this Will also, remember it's a legal document I don't believe its a place for nick names.Further more my list shows that Willaims farther was a man named David, also I found out that in Yorthere was two Williams at the same time, they called one of them the other William but if you read part of that book by David Faris, The Faris Family of Wahington county you'll see that one of these Williams was not a Faris I belive it was Farrie or something like that. I do more seachering to see if I found out more. Pete

    1. RE: [FARRIS-L] Re: William and/or David Faries will
    2. Dr. Julie Clifton Laughner
    3. Here is a 2 generation report on what I have on David Faries, son of William & Agnes Cowan Faries. If you want more, let me know. If anyone can add anything to this, I would appreciate hearing from you. Julie Clifton Laughner Descendants of David Faries Generation No. 1 1. DAVID5 FARIES (WILLIAM4, JAMES3, DAVID2, DAVID1) was born Abt. 1778 in York Co., SC. He married ?. Notes for DAVID FARIES: Appears to have left his father's household by 1800, but his name does not appear int he York Co. census. He was aged about 27 years when his father made his will bequeathing David only his "smooth bored gun or what is commonly called a French musket." David Faries had a family of at least five children, but the name of his wife has not been recovered. Their three older children were probably born in York Co, SC. Their son Samuel was born in Tennessee during the journey to IN. Their son, Milton, was born in Washington County, IN. The last family record from the descendants of his brothers and sisters is that he "moved away from Walnut Ridge with two daughters, lost trace of since." David Faries had land entries in Lawrence Co., IN on 15 Dec 1817 and 14 May 1823. They were residing in Lawrence Co., IN (probably on Walnut Ridge) in 1820 with two sons aged 10-16 years, two daughters aged 10-16 years, and one son under 10 years. He was taxed in Lawrence Co., IN in 1822. He sold land there in 1835. They were residing in Putnam Co., IN in 1830 with two daughters aged 20-30 years, one son 15-20 years and one son 10-15 years. His daughter, Margaret, was married in 1832 to the son of a neighbor, Robert Logan. His marriage was conducted by David's cousin, the Rev. James Faris, pastor of the Bethesda Reformed Presbyterian Church of Bloomington, Monroe Co., IN. this is the last record of association with the Faris famillies of Walnut Ridge and Bloomington. It would seem evident that David and his family went with the new school at the time of the division of 1833. He sold land in Putnam County on 12 July 1834 and 30 Dec. 1834. Their subsequent whereabouts have not been discovered. There is no family record of the names of the children of David Faries. The attribution of John, Margaret, Samuel and Milton was made by Samuel's grandson, Forrest Faris, who studied all the Faries families of the area for many years. Only these individual fit the known facts of David's family in place of birth, place of parents' birth, associationwith the Reformed Presbyterian Church, residence in the places with David Faries, and not identified as members of other Faris families (as found in the information about the four children). (Taken from p. 33 of The Faris Family in Washington County, Indiana" by David Faris, Gateway Press, Baltimore, 1984) Children of DAVID FARIES and ? are: i. JOHN6 FARIES, b. Abt. 1806; m. NANCY HADDEN. ii. (DAU) FARIES, b. Abt. 1808. iii. MARGARET FARIES, b. Abt. 1810, probably York Co., SC1; m. ROBERT LOGAN, January 30, 1832, Putnam Co., IN1. 2. iv. SAMUEL FARIS, b. Abt. 1812, Tennessee; d. September 26, 1878. 3. v. MILTON FARIS, b. Abt. 1815. Generation No. 2 2. SAMUEL6 FARIS (DAVID5 FARIES, WILLIAM4, JAMES3, DAVID2, DAVID1) was born Abt. 1812 in Tennessee2, and died September 26, 18783. He married (1) SARAH "CATHERINE" HOLSAPPLE September 24, 1833 in or 9/26/1833 in Washington Co., IN, daughter of GEORGE HOLSAPPLE and PHOEBE HUBBARD. He married (2) ABIGAIL MACY January 28, 1847 in Washington Co., IN4. He married (3) LUCINDA STEPHENS December 13, 1849 in Jackson Co., IN4. Notes for SAMUEL FARIS: Their five children were born in Washington Co., IN between 1834 and 1846. Samuel appears to have joined the Regular Baptist Church after his marriage (according to David Faris book, p. 40). **************************************************************************** *********************************** On April 7, 1934, Mrs. Laura Holsapple Junkins, Bloomington, INd. writes as follows: "My father was John Holsapple, my mother was Sarah Ann (Vannoy) Holsapple. I, Laura, married David Presley Junkins, who is dead. George B., my brother, married Emma Adams, deceased, then Carrie Dodds, deceased, then Birdie Greggs, at Jones, Okla. My grandpa was Jacob Holsapple, my grandmother was Sarah Faris Holsapple. My grandma's sister, Mattie, married a Hubbard. My father and I, Laura, met a Samuel Faris at Holtzman's Woolen Mills when I, John Holsapple's daughter, was a small child, but I remember him. He as a small man with eyes like grandma - bluish gray. Grandma was short like Uncle Sam. My father called him Uncle Sam Faris (Our Co. joins Brown). Jacob and Sarah Faris have one daughter living at Elletsville, she is over 90 years old. She said Uncle Sam Faris brought his children to Grandpa and Grandma's to care for them for awhile." 3. This appears to be the will of William Faries, who died May 30, 1805 in York Co., SC, but his wife was Agnes Cowan, not Nancy. I know someone said Nancy was a nickname for Agnes, but I've never seen Agnes Cowan Faris called anything but Agnes.
