Folks, Before the Mason Dixon line was drawn.....PA, DE, VA, MD, and NJ were all overlapping.......That is why we have so many different places for the same Faries clan....if you check back in your history books, or on the web, you will see the triangle of the states pre- Mason Dixon line.....there is a site out there, which I don't have the address handy, type in Mason Dixon, get the date and what states are involved....then type in Delaware, Maryland, Penna. with dates before Mason Dixon....or try Delaware triangle....which explains the whole works! If I can find it in my bookmarks...I will put it up for everyone. Carole :}
Hi, My name is Debi Smallwood Brimmer and my Farris line is through my mother and my brickwall is on William O. Farris. I have found tons of info about the Rings...next to nothing about William O. William O. (Oat, Otis, Oade?) Farris, b. 1872 (Saltville, VA), d. 1953 +Mary Ella (Ellen?) Ring children were: Bob, Harry, Charlie, Dolyn, Lolyn, Anna (married William Carroll), Flora, Gaye, Ida and my grandfather, Willie Russell Farris Willie Russell b. 1-17-1905 , d. 1980 + Lydia Margaret Keene children: Edward Paul, Albert, Ida, Ella Lou, Ralph, Otis, and Yvonne Christine (my mother) William O. and Mary Ella are buried in the Ring Family Cemetary, Russell County, VA. I don't know whether William was born in Russell, Smyth or Washington County. Family rumours say that William's parents were not married but had the same last name. His mother is supposed to have died around 1930 and his father is rumoured to have gone to Texas. I just know that one of you wonderful Farris searchers has this brickwall just ready for me to knock down! Thanks, Debi

Julie said I'm linked to David Williams son , Dale cook said Moses father wasn't William it was Edward T., because Dale is related to Moses' son Moses T. ,So myself , Dale, Donna, and kurt hunting for Moses' father Edward T., but in the same area of S.C Pete
This Farris stuff is like a fungus it's everywhere it's everywhere. I live just outside of Phoenix, Ariz. in Peoria, Arizona, was born in Oakland, Calif moved here in 1977 because of the Dry Heat. In the summer I get so tan it looks like I came from India maybe I'm looking up the wrong names. There's also a Washington County, Indiana. So between all the Washingtons, and all the Williams and everyone using the same names and everyone spelling the name or names differently the Farris Family is hard to figure out who's related to who. If you leave out one name or intial your really messed up. My family almost like the rest of the Farris'/Faris/Faries/Ferris'/nad Faires we stared out from Ireland to Va. or S.C. ,some to Ill. some went to Ark., some went to Missouri, some went to Kansas, Oregon, Calif., Arizona and it's real hard to find who started all of us. It feels good when you think you find a link then you let everyone know on the net and someone else says no thats my link. But its fun. Yes I'm everywhere if something looks close I answer it I may not be right but you never know until you answer someone. I answered someone who was looking for my Robert Thad, I answered and it was a cousin in Fla. See you never knowPete
is it possible washington county included several different states that we have today......if anyone can figure this out please write to me at roosevelt4@aol.net.....thx mary
pete.........i see you all over the place.....are you a farris and where are you located....in missouri?.......a few of us were thinking perhaps long long ago, just maybe washington county missouri might have been washington county virginia and maybe all of us are looking for the same people.........what does everyone think.....thx mary
I know several people have tried to get this book, but have been unsuccessful. He published it in 1984, and before publishing, contacted all the people in the book to see if they wanted to order copies. My guess is he only made so many copies. I think others have had a hard time contacting him, too, but you might try the publisher in Baltimore. She stayed there in Washington and Lawrence Counties, and is buried in Lawrence Co. See below: William's surname was spelled variably being Fairies when he signed a letter of commendation for the ships' captain, and Fairey when his name was recorded as receiving a grant of 200 acres on Rocky Creek in what became Chester County. Soon after William and Agnes settled in SC, the American Revolution brought war to Chester County. William served several times in the local militia beginning in 1778. During this time their home was vandalized by British sympathizers, and their first two children died in infancy. In 1787 they removed a number of miles to the north to a new farm on Turkey Creek, York County, SC. From this time William appears to have spelled his name Faries although his sons used both Faries and Faris. By 1805 son John was in the new land available for settlement in the northwest territory and it is probable that William was preparing to move his family from SC. The move was to free territory without slavery against which the Covenanters took an uncompromising position. Wm Faries however died in York County on 30 May 1805. His family began the journey by ox-cart and pack horse through Tennessee and Kentucky to Indiana with son John and daughter Margaret permanently there by 1811, and the remainder of the family about 1815. Agnes and her children first settled in Clark Co., IN and then all but John settled on Walnut Ridge, Washington and Lawrence Counties, where they were members of the Walnut Ridge Reformed Presbyterian Church. Agnes (Cowan) Faries died aged 83 years at New Bedford, Lawrence Co., IN on 21 June 1832, and was buried at Jolly cemetery on the Boss Hughes farm, Bono Township, in the southeastern corner of Lawrence County. Do you have any idea how I could get a copy of Arthur's will that you mentioned? I never thought I would get anywhere on Johnson so this is very exciting. from the information i currently have, cowan appears to be the son of john w farris....john born 1810 kentucky but appears in the washington county missouri census for 1860.........mary
there is lots of information under WWW.FAMILYTREEMAKER.COM, go to approx 8th or 9th page to find Ruby's web page, she has lots of names and information which might help you in your missouri search. i am looking for info on cowan and mollie farris, who had 4 children named: willie rush, sallie, mollie, and lulu elizabeth. we have info that lulu elizabeth was born 1868 in possibly missouri, but she married samuel jeremiah calloway in 1884 in wayne cty missouri, then moved to texas in 1893. my g-g-g grandfather is cowan, lulu elizabeths brother. cowan son, willie rush apparently moved to texas because my father, vernie rush was born in red river county tx 1898. any info to any of these people will be most appreciated............thx mary
would this agnes "cowan" by any chance have a son named "cowan farris" who married a mollie, they had children named sallie, mollie, lulu elizabeth, and willie rush farris. thanks mary
