Dear List Members: How nice it was to receive so much information from one of our members! Here are some connections that you might find useful: Julius Farris 61 Washington County and were brothers. James Farris 52 Washington County Julius C. Farris 27 Washington County was James's son by his first wife (Elizabeth Jane) and Julius's nephew. Ballard Farris 26 Washington County was the son of James and Julius's brother, David Farris. America Farris, who is listed in James's household was, according to one source I have, listed twice in the 1880 Census. She was also listed with her cousin, Verlin Morgan McNew. Trigg Farris 35 Russell County may be the son of another brother to Julius, James, and David. Thomas Farris had a son named Trigg, although according to other information I have, he may have been only about 28 in 1880. I know censuses often have glaring errors in age. Finally, William D. Farris 26 Washington County, was the son of Julius Farris. His wife Catherine was a Hartzog (Hartsock) born in North Carolina. There is at least a possibility that the wife of Ballard Farris (Rachel Hartsock) was her sister. If any of you recognize any of these people as your kin, I'd appreciate it if you would contact me. We can probably help each other. Lillie Munford

Don't ever rule out someone because of a date on a tombstone. I have an Abraham Farris that had his birthdate on his stone as October 10, 1849 and an article in the local paper about him living to be almost 100 years old. But through several census records in two different counties, his birthdate should have been December 1860. This really caused me a problem at first. I have no idea why his stone is like this or if this was a common problem. I just learned to check around more before assuming that it's correct because it's written in stone. Also another thing you can do if you have located the Headstone, is contact the cemetery office & ask for a copy of their burial file (depending on the yr. of death they may have it) & it may also give you an obit notice or something that show's date's too. I never rely upon census records for ages, because they are rarely correct! I guess it pays to be skeptical of all the records. Wanda >Don't ever rule out someone because of a date on a tombstone. I went to the National Archives this week and copied down all the Farris (et.al) surnames from the 1880 Virginia census. I have tried to be accurate .but you know how dark those archives are! lets use my real name since we are fortunate to have another mary farris with us......i am marilu farriss........a few weeks ago we had a real discussion on the different spellings of farris, if any one missed it, i will be glad to send it again........it is really strange because several people had different stories as to why the spelling had changed over the yrs.......i printed it out and will be glad to share it with the newcomers if they wish..........thanks marilu

i forgot in the prior message to note that my father, vernie rush, did tell me that our farris family originally came from ireland........and the spelling of our farriss name started with a ph then.......i think pharish....not sure tho.........and some of the farris family in missouri spelled farris like this "FarriSS", some only use one capitol S at the end.......my father was married before i was born and had 5 children, they spelled farriss like this Farris, whereas my brother and i spell it like this Farriss. of course my father quit school at the age of 10-12 to raise his 4 brothers because his mother passed away giving birth to the youngest....the story i was told was that my g-father had a sort of nervous breakdown when my g-mother passed away, then he ran away.......so perhaps daddy didnt know how to spell his name or for some reason they chose to change it...... anyway not only are the birthplace in missouri a mystery, so are the spellings of the last name.... thnx and welcome to our new people..........mary
gwen welcome.......several of us have Washington Co, mo. in our history where we seem to be stuck....have tried researching old maps for boundaries to see if the Washington co. In could pos be the same place from yrs ago....i did find some old maps out on the net with old boundaries but couldnt read them clearly....my family is vernie rush farriss (farris) born 1898 in red river tx, he was the son of willie rush farris married to nettie chennault farris....we know that willie rush grew up in missouri, had 3 sisters named mollie, lulu elizabeth (b 1868-married 1884 and moved to tx 1893),and sallie.....their parents were cowan and mollie farris still in missouri..... so our brick wall starts with cowan and mollie farris who had 4 children: lulu elizabeth, sallie, mollie, and willie rush..........i believe but not sure that cowan's father was john w farris married to edith james........this is very unclear.......some info i have states john was born in kentucky ... any info of the parents etc of cowan or mollie farris will be most appreciated or when willie rush moved to texas and when/where willie rush married nettie chennault.... i do have what i believe to be accurate info on lulu elizabeth who married jeremiah samuel calloway in wayne cty mo then moved to texas in 1893, landed in greyson cty tx (near denison and sherman tx) i show that sallie farris married jim goode and had 4 children also that mollie farris married frank murph and had one child, ida murph. this is all the info i have taken from old letters i found in my mothers belongings.....any info will be most appreciated....i do have info to share for lulu elizabeth and willie rush (my g-father)... thnx much mary

Hi I am new to the list and William Farris from Ireland is the line I am working on.William was married to Agnes. They went to South Carolina. Their children were David, Margaret, Mary,John, James Joshua, Isaac;, and Sarah. Mine line is through Mary who married George Loudon. They moved to IN to Washington County by 1833. Mary's daughter married Adam Wisley. It goes on for a long time I would love to share everything I have. Does anyone have the same line out there? Gwen
