I just heard on the Radio news that a gunman possibly 2 fired shots in the Salt Lake City Family History Center Library today. They have one gunman in custody, but they think there is another. They have 1 confirmed death & 7 injured. Its 12:12 pm my time in Idaho & I heard this less than an hr. ago. I just heard about the number of people hurt just before I got connected. How terrible. Why would anyone do something so sick, they couldn't be mad about not finding info. on their ancestor's. Hopefully, I will hear more on this & get those answer's. I just thought this would be of interest. Alli

Has anyone found a relative who is a FARRIS but it was spelled Harris (in any records or something)? I know many times i have to say F as in Frank when spelling my last name for people and was wandering if anyone has found that their ancestors has been listed as a HARRIS instead of FARRIS. There is for sale on www.amazon.com in their new auction section, a Bible from the family of Davd D. Dunbar and Helen H. Skinner, married in Weston, New Jersey. The Bible is dated 1880 and there is a picture. Please pass this information along to anyone on a Dunbar or a Skinner or a New Jersey list. Someone might want it! The question about the Farris-Riggins connection was interesting to me because my grandfather, who began his life as Willie or William D. Farris and ended it as D. W. Farris (for reasons that have no bearing here), had two relatives named Ben or Benjamin. I know one was a first cousin and the son of Mycajah (Cage) Farris. I don't know what kin the other was. My mother, who is now 75, met one of those Ben's (when she was a child) at a gathering and asked him if he was Ben Riggins. He was not, but laughed at the question. The point is, my grandfather had a relative named Ben (or Benjamin) Riggins Farris. Coincidence? Maybe! But maybe not! As far as I have been able to learn, most of Grandaddy's family stayed in the Washington County and Smyth County region with quite a few of them clustered around the Saltville area. Grandaddy was born in 1889, and most of his siblings and first cousins would have been born from the early 70's up to 1900. One first cousin was born in 1902, and one may have been born in the early 1920's, but the rest would have been born in the last 30 years of the nineteenth century. Maybe some of the Farris researchers will have information on Ben Riggins Farris and will be able to tell us if or how the families are connected. Lillie Munford
I have both of these people...give my a few days...I think I broke through my own Riggins brick wall and I'm afraid to let go of the thread. Maryellen
W. Littleton Riggins married Mary Gant (John2, John1) in probably Orange Co in abt 1796. They went to Rowan CO.NC and then possibly SC, and on to GA (Green, Hancock, Jackson Co.s) and then to AL (Bibb and Talledega Co.s) Faris and Green people marry early into this line. Another branch married a Kelly. would love to hear from you, Wanda as we hit in a few places. Maryellen
The Faris family may be key to our brick wall. We are the Riggins family and two branches of this prolific bunch left NC about 1795-1805. One group went to TN,KY,IL,MO. The other branch went to SC,GA,AL. Both traveled with Faris families. Margaret Faris dau of James Faris and Anne married John Riggin about 1807 in TN(?) and they are found in Madison Co IL in the early 1800's. Margaret's parents seem to have birthed two younger siblings of Margaret's in SC in the late 1700's. The other group of Riggins/Faris people were in Talledega Co. Al in the 1850's. Before that time they were in Ga, and possibly SC. Wesley M.D. Faris, James Faris and Mary Long (Lang) Faris were all listed in the 1880 AL census as being born in Al (all in 20's-30) with a Mother from TN and a father from Georgia. They all married Riggins' and lived next to each other. Help! Thanks , Maryellen
