I'm reposting this to the list with a bit of extra info, so some of you may have an easier time finding connections to my search. Seeking information on William and Katy PHARRIS. William was probably born in Madison or Cumberland County Kentucky. His first wife was named Sarah. William's second wife was named Katy. William probably died around 1815 +/- a few years. William's widow, Katy, began to live with Enoch J. "Old Man" CARTER in about 1818. Katy and Enoch lived together for several years but separated prior to 1830. The 1850 Jackson County, TN, census shows Pharris families and descendants of this Enoch Carter living in consecutively numbered households. Am especially interested in learning more about the origins of Katy Pharris. One source believes she may have been part Cherokee. All leads or direction will be appreciated. FYI, the information posted about the Indian graves is of importance to me, as I live in the County mentioned, and am part Cherokee. I had not seen this in the local paper. I find it sad that some people feel compelled to complain about something so minor. Perhaps if we were kinder to each other, more people would contribute to the list. Darla Farris

Hi Wanda, It has been a while since I have posted my FARRIS line, so I thought I would try again. My great grandfather Richard FARRIS was born in April 1839 in Missouri. (Information taken from the Twelfth Census of the United States, 1900.) His father was born Tennessee; his mother was born in Mississippi. Richard married Julia COTNER August 3, 1865, in Morgan County, Missouri. (Julia and her parents were born in Tennessee.) There was another wedding on the same date - Rabecca Ann FARRIS and Andrew COTNER; we are assuming this is a sister of Richard and a brother of Julia. The same justice of the peace performed both marriages. On the 1900 Census form, it is stated Richard and Julia had six children. We know of five: William David, born 1868, Missouri Joil Lee, born February 23, 1870, Texas (my grandfather) (The 1910 and 1920 census says he was born in TX; other family members say he was born in MO) Alice, born 1874 Oscar C, Born February 10, 1878, Texas Edgar, born November 15, 1882, Indian Territory (Hughes County, Oklahoma). Julia died July 2, 1904 and Richard died August 9, 1904, in Hughes County, Indian Territory. We believe Richard's parents were Sampson and Modest FARRIS (found in the 1850 Census of Moniteau County Missouri). Age Place of Birth FARRIS Sampson 40 TN Modeste 45 MO Thomas 20 MO Lydia 16 MO Jane 14 MO RICHARD 13 MO Daniel 10 MO REBECCA 8 MO James 5 MO David 2 MO In the 1840 Census of Cole County, Missouri, Sampson FARRIS and the following listing is recorded: Males - Under 5 2 5-10 1 30-40 1 Females - Under 5 1 5-10 1 30-40 1 Sampson FARRIS and a "female, aged 20-30", are found in the 1830 Census of Cooper County, Missouri. Sampson, Modist and family moved before 1860 to Vernon County, Mo in Little Osage Twp. They were on the census at p. 99 dwelling 715, family no. 683 as: S M Farris 51--male--farmer--Tenn Modist Farris 55--female--Mo Rebecca Farris 18--female-- Mo James M. Farris 15--male--MO David Farris 12--male--Mo Sampson Farris married Modist Westbrook (a daughter of Richard Westbrook) on Dec. 24, 1829 in Cooper County, MO. Modist was born around 1804 or 1805 in New Madrid, MO. It appears that Sampson was born about 1810. Sampson died-in the fall of 1863. Thank you, Vel
Hi list. I wonder in your many Farris files you have two brothers named Sam/Samuel and Joe/Joseph/Josephus Farris. They probably were born between 1840 and 1874. Sam was killed in a shoot out with train robbers in May 1894, in Yukon, Oklahoma. Joe was there involved in the shoot out. They would probably arrived in Oklahoma in 1889/90 when the Oklahoma Territory was opened. As usual the spelling could be Farris/Faris etc. The local papers had it a Farris. I don't believe they are in my line, mine is the same as Wilma Faris Lorance's, i.e. James Faris and Catherine Bell Faris. The Yukon Police Dept. is trying to find family of Sam. They plan on having Sam's name added to the National Law Enforcement's Memorial in Washington DC. They would like for any remaining family or descendants to be involved. If you have anything on Sam and Joe, let me know and I'll send it on to the Chief and Vice Mayor of Yukon. Have a great weekend and a better week, Rex Faris 333 Burnett Rd.
