    3. Susan, The birth and death dates you have for James Ross Farris match the dates I found for James Fariss son of James Fariss and Peggy Whiteside. I obtained these dates from a Fariss family Bible transcription. The death date is also from a tombstone transcription found in Maury County Cemeteries. I do not have the middle name for this James or any information on his marriage however. >I'm confused. I just figured out that I have James Ross Farris in two >separate families. 3. We are working the Alfred Faries (blacksmith) line. Alfred Faries is my Great Great Grandfather, and yes he lived with Samuel Faries (blacksmith) family in the Census. Samuel was married to Margaret Boyen (?) and we have marriage information from Dover Archeives on this couple. Alfred, his brother was married to Rebecca (?) and they had several children...all of whom we have, obits, spouses, etc. for. Alfred and Rebecca are buried in DE at Odd Fellows Cem. (need to research more on them) and Alfred and Rebecca's son; Charles B. (my Great Grandfather) married Susannah Turner, and they are buried there at Odd Fellows Cem. also (need to do more research on them) so it looks like whoever is researching back from Sam is kin to us with our Alfred. We need to know the name of the parents of Sam and Alfred, and find any other siblings for this family. You can e mail me direct at my address above.... I am in Pa but am planning a trip into DE as soon as possible...you might be able to provide me with more clues to pull out information on this family. Carole In reference to the Ohio group, The father took his son to Ohio, and there is a whole line of Faries coming from Robert in Ohio who moved on from there. Contact me direct and I will give you the address to get in touch with that gentleman, who is working the Ohio line. Carole This could be a major link up, that all of us have been waiting for....so please connect. Carole Faries Werner in Pa

    1. Re: [FARRIS-L] Concord Cemetery, TX FARRISes
    2. Linda, I haven't found a marriage record for James Edward Fariss & Mary Jane Hines Powell in any of my TN records (I will keep looking). I have the death date for Samuel B. Fariss (d. 13 Aug 1895), but I don't know where. Do you know where your grandmother was born? You said that James E. & Mary Jane both died around 1991 ( was it 1891?). Samuel's brother, John Lindsay ( my 2nd great grandfather) removed from Maury Co to Lewis Co to McNairy Co, where he lived out his life and is buried. Some of the English Family came to TX, as did my great grandfather, John Alexander Farris. You will notice that this family spells the name both FARISS & FARISS. How old was your grandmother, when her mother died? any idea? do you know where she was living? any clues? Let me hear from you, Emma

    3. Hi Folks, Without confirmation at this point, I have a feeling that Alexander and James are part of the Delaware line....until we can get more information on that line, we will all just have to hang in there and see what developes. Blacksmith is the key at this point, as "our" (Gail and my) family come from a long line of blacksmiths, farmers, and furniture makers.....although most of what was done back then was that type of work. Gail and I have traced "ours" back through Alfred D. and Elizabeth McAfee Faries, Charles B. and Susannah Turner Faries, to Alfred D. and Rebecca ? Faries all of whom have been found in Delaware, in the New Castle and Kent Co. areas. We found where they are buried, and need to contact the cemetery to see if they have more information than the death certificates...we also have been working with Census and Tax records on them...but so far in vain. I have a Samuel Faries who donated property to a Presbyterian Church here in Pa...and hope to research that one. I also found a grave, just yesterday, for Samuel S. Faris (1875-1945) buried with Osie O. Faris (1871-1947). I will need to go back and research that and see if he is the Sammy who donated land. Everyone hang in there, and keep communicating with each other. This site is a valuable tool for all of us to put this family together. Have a happy, safe fourth of July. Will continue our quest of Faris, Ferris, Faries, Faires. Carole Faries Werner :}

    2. Hi Emma, Yes, he's the one we are searching for. He was born in 1850 and married a Mary Jane Hines Powell around 1878. He was my ggrandfather . He and his wife both died (we think) around 1991. We don't know what caused the death. Their death left their children (one of which was my grandmother ) orphaned. We also do not know where he is buried. We have searched the records in Maury county but have not found anything. His parents were Samuel Farris and Elizabeth English. Any information on James Edwards would be helpful. Thanks so much, Linda

    3. Since there are so many people involved with Alexander Farris and York Co., S. C., I would like to add my query to the list. I am searching for the parents of Alexander Farris born in S.C. in 1799 and his brother, James born in S. C. in 1795. Supposedly they were both born in York Co., S.C. but I have been unable to find a family there that fits these 2 sons. They were both living in Franklin Co., Tenn. by 1812 and lived there all their lives. Alexander had 8 children and four of his sons served in the civil war. Two of them died and one was wounded. The other came home safely. The names of Alexander's children are: George W., Evaline, Ann, James S., Reuben S., Wm. D. Thomas D. and Dock Farris. James, the brother of Alexander had 7 children: Dee, George W., Charity, Eliza, Sally Ann, Hannah and Harriett. James was a blacksmith. Alexander & James married sisters from Virginia. Alexander married Oney Simmons and James married Catherine Simmons. I have a lot of information on the family but would like to find the parents of Alexander & James. Some seem to think they may have come from Pendleton Dist., S. C. but we were told it was York Co., S. C. Would appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks! -Stephanie Farris Harrington
