    1. [FARRIS-L] Hang in there
    2. Carole Werner
    3. To whom it may concern: Hang in there, Gail and I are going to try to get information about this family who left New Castle DE and went to South Carolina, Tenn, and Va. areas. We hope to make a hook up on that this saterday, and if we get anything good, will post it on the net. The main family we come off was to have had family members go to South Carolina (Alexander & Jennett James was one couple) and if we can hook up with Nancy Faries from the funeral home down Smyrna DE we might hit pay dirt. The DE marriages are on Gail's home page. I have entered military and death records, and have been working on enterng information on the probates for the wills in Kent Co. and New Castle Co. Gail and I have a lot of the wills, we got them from the Dover Archives. Once we get all of this on line, everyone can see it, and perhaps it will help all of us to find the lines we so desperately are looking for. In kinship Carole Faries Werner & Gail Faries :} P.S. everyone cross your fingers that this week we find our treasures for all of our sakes.

    1. [FARRIS-L] Elijah and Francis Marion Phares
    2. J P Leary
    3. Hi all -- I am looking for info on Francis Marion Phares (b. 1848 Pickaway Co., OH, d. 1929 Cornland, IL). He is listed in the 1850 Pickaway Co. census in the household of Elijah Feris (b. 1779 VA married to Elizabeth Thompson). Do those of you who are Elijah Phares descendents know anything about Francis Marion? I have been unable to determine who his parents are but have been told that one of the women in the household, perhaps Susannah or Polly Ann, may be his mother. His father is unknown but he may have been a Conner. The people listed in Elijah Feris' 1850 household are: Elijah Feris 62, M, b. VA Farmer Elizabeth 61, F, b. VA Susannah 30 F, b. VA Ely 25, M, b. VA Polly Ann, 23, F, b. VA Elija 21, M, b. VA Robert, 18, M, b. VA Francis Marion 2, M, b. OH They were dwelling 44, household 44 in Deer Creek Township. Thanks in advance. J P

    3. Kurt, Thanks but so far have not been able to track to SC. I have been told that the line I am researching is from Scotland>Ireland>PA>VA then spread from there. So far in my research all starts in VA, and spreads to TN, AR, OK, MO, NE, Wisconsin, Montana, AZ, OR and WA. So the info I keep seeing on Indiana and SC I read some of but never been able to connect any of it. I know Samuel, William James, John, Robert, Mark, Lee, Anderson and Thomas are used a lot. For female names is Elizabeth, Virginia, Ann, Mary, Levina, and Martha. If you have any info of them coming from VA to SC I would be interested or the other way around let me know. Thanks! Sherri Faris

Faries as the father of three sons in America; Moses, John W. and Samuel W. Moses and Samuel were in York, SC in the late 1700s and I'm not sure about John. From what I've gathered from others in this group, these SC Faries could be related to the ones in PA, DE and VA. The names William, Robert and Edward are common in my line as well. Others, what do you think? Kurt Matheson

    1. [FARRIS-L] My FARRIS
    2. Hello again, This is my third time subscribing to the list over the last couple of years- I like this group a lot -great help and friendly. Its just when I get overwhelmed in my mail box and I give up in frustration over my difficult FARRIS ancestor I pull back for awhile. Anyway I have some more facts and a lot more probables than what I did a year ago so here goes. George Washington FARRIS b. abt 1811 KY - probably the son of another George W. FARRIS. His second marriage was to Sarah JOHNSON WILLIAMS (b. 1840 daughter of Arthur Lewis and Mary SIMPSON JOHNSON) in 1864 in Gibson Co. IN. Their children were: William Thompson 1864 (my grtgrt) Rosetta John Lewis Martha Elizabeth (Mattie) Spicey Endia 1872 Sarah died in 1872, probably in childbirth with Spicey. George W. took the children to Jack Co., TX where they are listed on the 1880 census. He died shortly thereafter and the children were separated and went their own ways. WT and Rosetta ended up in OK and the other three stayed in Jack Co. I am almost certain of the following: He is the George FARRIS living in Wayne Co. IL in 1840, 1850 and 1860. Married to an S. ( dont you all hate initials?) He had children, all initials except one who was Jasper. ( My WT had a son named Jasper) There are also in Wayne Co., Samuel and James, who are both on the 1850 IL census report. I believe these both to be his brothers as well as Thompson FARRIS who was living next door in Hamilton Co. IL. Thompson had sons named Samuel and George W. There is even a possiblity that the Spicey E. JOHNSON living in Wayne Co. in 1860 as head of household is a sister. I have not yet been able to view all the census reports I have records of. In 1830 there are a George W. and a Samuel FARRIS. I expect that these are one generation back as my George would have been only 21 and Samuel 14. Since there are both a George W. and a George in 1840 and land was purchased by both of these people under these names I believe that my George went by George until the senior George W. died because after 1850 he started using George W. After years of trying to find something on this man I have at last found some possibles. If anybody has anything to help - please let me know. Charmaine Riley Holley arkivemom@aol.com

Therefore calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, Do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the discretion of my Executors no doubting that at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God....and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form....Impirimis, is my will and do order in the first place all my just debts and funeral charges be paid and satisfied, and I also allow twenty pounds to get and fix a large tombstone over my grave at the discretion of my brother Jacob Faries & William Rankin Item I give and bequeath to my loving wife Mary one feather bed and furniture or horse and saddle and the whole use of a lot of Marsh adjoining hansons landing on Delaware containing six acres during her natural life, but at her decease I will and demise the said lot of Marsh to my brother Jacob Faries likewise all my wearing apparel to said Jacob which he is to get at my decease. Item I give and bequeath my Sister Margaret Black my second best feather bed to her and her heirs...Item I give and bequeath unto my two nieces Margaret and Jane Faries the sum of one hundred pounds apiece which is to be lodged with their father Jacob Faries until they arrive to the age of eighteen years then to be paid unto them with the lawful interest for the same..Item I give and bequeath to my niece Margaret Black on hundred pounds which is to be lodged in the hands of Isaac Alexander senior which he is to pay her when she arrives at the age of eighteen with lawful interest for the same--and all the remainder of my estate I give and bequeath to the heirs of my Brother Jacob Faries and Sister Margaret Black to be equally divided amongst them...and I do constitute and ordain Isaac Alexander, Jacob Faries and Mary my wife the whole and sole executors of this my last will and testament. Ratifying and confirming this and none other to be my last will and testament Notice how the spelling of the name is.....throughout this hand written will it is spelled FARIES for him and Jacob. He did marry and his wife was Mary He lived in Red Lion Hundred Notice the Marsh area and reference to a hansons landing (something to look for in 1776 for area he lived) He makes no mention of children....does the line stop there? This is all very interesting indeed. See if Barbara has this, otherwise forward it to her, and let her know we have the will and can copy it for her if she so desires. I'm impressed....now tell me ya already know all this and have a copy! Yikes! Luv Meskee :}

I have contacted the original researcher to find out what her source is for Maria's surname... Anyway, hope there are some useful links here!
