Hi everyone, After a little bit of a break in researching my FARRIS' while moving into a new house, I am ready to get back into it. I have several FARRIS connections and currently researching all branches. One branch of my FARRIS/FARIES family is an Alexander FARRIS who married Jennet HALL and live in York Co., SC late 1700's to early 1800's. I know there are 3 different Alexander FARRIS' in and around that area at the sametime. If anyone knows of the Alexander who married a Jennet HALL..I am stuck on this one. Both Wanda and Betsey have been very helpful in trying to determine if this is the same Alexander b @1740. Another branch does go back to Alexander FARRIS/FARIES/FAIRES b. @1740. 1. Alexander FARRIS/FARIES b. @1740 d. 6/26/1824 York Co., SC m. Jennet JAMES b. 1747 d. 2/6/1827 York Co., SC 2. Thomas FARRIS/FARIES b. 3/12/1775 d. 12/30/1858 m. Anna SINCLAIR b. 12/11/1782 d. 9/30/1838 3. Elijah Alexander FARRIS/FARIES b. 1820 d. 1878 Faulkner Co., AR m. Harriet Louise WEST (ggranddaughter of Alexander FARIES m. Jennet HALL, the other Alexander Faries in the York Co., SC area) b. 5/29/1827 d. 2/17/1911 4. Thomas Fulton FARRIS b. 1850 d. 1909 Cato, Faulkner Co., AR m. Sarah Elizabeth Clementine FARRIS b. 8/24/1856 d. 9/27/1933 Faulkner Co.,AR Notes: Thomas and Clemmie were 2nd or 3rd cousins and my ggggrandparents. Clemmie's father was Harvey Holmes FARRIS b. 7/31/1832 d. 7/1/1865 m. No, I am not descended from this person, but had received an email from someone who is trying to help one of his descendants prove lineage in order to join some organization (not even sure which one). Maybe it was his father who served in the war? If so, if someone has access to a resource that lists the SC soldiers, I would appreciate the information. Wanda
thanks but not mine c
Hi Group, John Robert is my 2nd Great-Grandfather. I have John James in my file, but did not know he was my Great-grandfather, George Templeton Farris! In answer to your question, though. John Robert fought in B. Company Campbell Rifles 12th Infantry South Carolina Vol. He enrolled on 8 August 1861. He was a private in the company. There is supposed to be a pension record for him and hope to get it soon when I go to the Archives. He reported to CampLightWood, Knot Springs. This Camp is located near what is now Fort Jackson , South Carolina (where I did my basic training:-) ) If I can tell you more e-mail me. Thanks Dale Cook

Sherri, I find your post most interesting. And I am VERY interested in the original EDWARD and father WILLIAM. First of all, I have a question for you, or anyone else out there that might have an answer. Have you ever found any evidence that there were 2 separate EDWARDs, one in Washington Co. VA and one in what became Russell Co. VA?? I have tracked Edward down the western side of Virginia, which was all Augusta Co. at one time so William could have died anywhere out there and still have died in Augusta Co.... But, I have never found evidence of 2 Edwards... However, to be perfectly honest, I haven't thoroughly researched Washington Co. for proof that Edward and Agnes were there while a second Edward was in Russell Co. (I would have to check the earliest I have him in the area that became Russell, think it was 1787). Anyway, the Edward of Washington/Russell had close connections with MY Farrises and ended up in TN via Lincoln Co. KY. I, personally, believe there was only one Edward but I can't prove it. I would be very interested in comparing notes and I have some addresses of other of Edward and Agnes's descendants if you would be interested. Sandy McIntire, Cedar Rapids, IA

He was the brother of my 2nd great grandfather William Caldwell Faries. I have him born 12 Jan, 1856 and died 30 Aug, 1932 and is buried at Woodside Cem in Clover, SC. Was he old enough to serve in a Confederate Unit? I have yet to check the Civil War lists for the Faries' in York, SC. I can if you wish. Kurt Matheson Greenville, SC
Dear folks, Please read the will of the Alexander who died in New Castle County, Delaware in 1785 and take note of the lack of a wife being mentioned meaning that she had passed away before this Alexander did. Also note the names of the children listed in this will. This will is probated in Delaware. I would presume that this Alexander is buried in Delaware. When you have finished reading this will read the will of Alexander b. @ 1740 d. 1824 in York County, South Carolina. Notice that he names his wife, Jennet, and the names of several of his children. This will is probated in South Carolina. He is buried in York County, South Carolina. CW and I have been to his gravesite. You will note that these are two different men with two different families. They may or may not be related. For the record I have never lived in the state of Missouri. I can be reached at BETSYFARISAOL.COM

Hello! My name is Patty Faries and I am trying to research my husband's family for him and our children. Thanks to Carole and Gail who have been so encouraging to me in my search this past year. I must say, WOW, I am not alone! I am new at this and love it...but I am stuck! The last William I have gotten back to is William A Faris b. 1839/40 in PA(?) married to Louisa b. 1842/43 also PA and living in Philly according to the 1880 census. They had 6 children : John 19yrs, William (this is the line I am following) 12yrs, Emma 10yrs, Louisa 5yrs, Louis 4yrs, Georgio 1 yr. In 1900 census for Philly the second son, William b. Oct.1869 is married to Florence Christian b. Dec. 1871 and they have one son, Harold Christian born 1897. Williams youngest brother, George, is also living with them at this time. The spelling on this census is Faries. I cannot find William A Faris as a child in PA. If any of you recognize or think there might be a connection with your information please email me. I am thinking more and more his family may have been in Delaware, or Virginia, or MD or SC, or who knows!? Any advice or wisdom from experience is very welcome! - Patty
