Hi, all, I sent a message Sunday about the missing portion of Alexander Faires' gravestone. Today I got an e-mail from one of his descendants. She had taken the top half of the stone to see if it could be connected to the bottom of the stone. It could not, so she is getting a new headstone made. She will be returning the old headstone, and it will sit beside the new one. Deborah

Dear Deborha: It is sad that hoodlums exist. I was interested in the fact that you have a relative by the name Alexamder Faires (Farris). My ggrandfather was Alexander D. Farris born 1812 in Madison Co. Ky. He moved with his family in the early 1830"s to MO. He married and lived the rest of his days in MO. He died 7-4-1900 in Lancaster MO. We are not certain of his father's name, and just wondered if your Farris line could be kin?? Many of you are familiar with the discussions about Alexander and Jennet Faires of Fort Mill, S.C. This Revolutionary War-era couple is buried in Old Unity Cemetery close to my parents' house. A few weeks ago, my father took my niece to see the gravestone, but they could not find it. So yesterday, Daddy and I tried again. The stone has been broken for some time, so the top portion - with Alexander's name - had been leaning against the still-standing bottom part. I found the bottom part right away, with Jennet's name barely decipherable. But the top portion was gone. Daddy and I walked the whole cemetery, which is small, in hopes of finding Alexander's part lying on the ground or against the stone cemetery wall. But no luck. This historic cemetery was badly damaged by Hurricane Hugo and has been vandalized numerous times in the past. I find it so sad that someone would make away with this small piece of history. On a happier note, please join me in welcoming a new Farris into the world: Donovan Patrick Farris, son of my cousin Kerry Lee Farris and his wife, Sharon Miller Farris. Donovan was born March 12 and has an older brother, Devan, and an older sister, Lauren. Deborah
For all those who are researching the Carolina lines. Check out this map that I found on York County, Pa. http://www.geocities.com/nadineholder/PaStl.jpg This is a map of early settlements in Pa. It shows York County Pa. right above Maryland with Delaware to the right. It also shows when each area was established. This makes more sense as far as Faris folks being born in York Co. Pa. as it seems to be right over the line from other early areas of settlements. This is a very interesting slant on some of the early research problems with Pa DE and the Carolinas. Thank you for your attention to this. Carole Faries Werner :}

He was born in South Carolina according to census data about 1800. It appears that he was in Texas by 1841 (waiting on document to verify). He was in Liberty County, Texas in the 1850 census as Daniel Faresh. Later moved to DeWitt County, Texas. He later married an Elizabeth Lowe Parker in DeWitt Co. Children were born by a Kosiah (?) census was illegible. I am looking for any information on him, but especially on his parents. It looks like he came to texas through Mississippi and Lousiana as the census says that two of his sons were born in Mississippi or Louisiana. Censuses differ on this point from year to year.
