Welcome to the list: My connection to the Farris family is thru my father's maternal grandmother, Laura Elizabeth Farris Inglett b. 1872, GA and d. January 02, 1953, GA. State Hospital, Milledgeville, GA. Married John Inglett, May 24, 1890, Richmond Co, GA. I am trying to find information on her parents. According to some info. in a Christmas Card found inside my grandmother's Bible, her mother's father was a Howell Farriss and mother Elizabeth Parker. However, the info. from Laura Inglett's medical records said that her parents were divorced and her father was a "hopeless drunk." Now some of you might be wondering why I am trying to find this man, but warts and all, they are still my family! I have found the following census record that might be them, but cannot find any family in 1880 that includes Laura Elizabeth Farris to verify the connections. CENSUS: 1870 [Powelton?] Dist., Hancock Co., Ga. p. 7 [enumerated 7 June 1870] Farriss, Howell 30 M W Farm Laborer GA. E. 24 F W Keepng House GA Johnnie 7 M W GA Sallie 4 F W GA Benj. 3 M W GA Willie 1 M W GA. This seems to be a good possiblibly, as Laura's medical records state she was born in Sparta, Hancock Co., GA. If any of you are looking in the Richmond Co., GA area, then we are probably kin. I found this in the 1889 Augusta City Directory has the following, p. 164 One of them may fit this family. Farris: Miss Aurena, wks Dartmouth Mills, bds 1203 Fenwick [matches a daughter of Beverly] Benjamin, wks L. F. Padgett, res 1316 1/2 Barrett Beverly, painter, res 1203 Fenwick [Could this be the unreadable name on the 1850 census with parents James and Rebecca Farris?] Charles, wks Augusta Factory, bds 1203 Fenwick Edward, wks Augusta Factory, bds 1203 Fenwick Jack, wks L. F. Padgett J., wks Augusta Factory *Laura, spinner Augusta Factory [***POSSIBLY my great-grandmother] Miss Rebecca, wks Augusta Factory, bds 1203 Fenwick Thomas, fireman CRR Ferris Charles H. (Ferris & Son) res 837 Greene St. John C. (Ferris & Son) res 820 Broad Sr. William, lab, bds 1501 Rollersville Rd. Ferris & Son (John C. & Charles H) merchant tailors, 820 Broad ***Laura Elizabeth Farris would have been 17 at the time and very well could be the Laura Farris above. Others her siblings/father? Note the connection to Augusta Factory and the place they are living. Billie Jones Camden, SC [email protected]
