    1. [FARRIS-L] James Farris b. ca 1806, VA , living Clark Co. GA. in 1850
    2. Lee and Billie Jones
    3. I descend from a Howell Farris according to notes in my grandmothers papers. Have searched for him and finally seem to have found him: The list of children belonging to James Farris came from the 1850 census records found on Ancestry. I have no other proof of the attachments, of wife or wives, or kinship of the children at this time. Listed as children until further evidence is found on the family. Verified with search of the 1850 Census, July, 2003. I searched every Farris/Ferris of various spellings and this is the only family with a son Howell located in GA in 1850. Checked every James in the 1860 GA census index, looked them up, but did not find this same family in 1860 GA. Need to look up Rebecca Farris. CENSUS: 1850 Clark Co, GA, Athens Dist., p. 21, hh#147 James Farris 44 M Factory Op. b. VA could r/w Rebecca Farris 30 F GA could r/w Nancy A. Farris 18 F GA Beverly Farris 15 M GA James Farris 13 M GA Howell Farris 9 M GA Miles H. Farris 8 M GA Benj. B. Farris 6 M GA Doctor W. W. Farris 4 M GA CENSUS: 1870 [Powelton?] Dist., Hancock Co., Ga. p. 7 [enumerated 7 June 1870] Farriss, Howell 30 M W Farm Laborer GA. E. 24 F W Keepng House GA Johnnie 7 M W GA Sallie 4 F W GA Benj. 3 M W GA Willie 1 M W GA. Some of these family members seem to be located in Augusta GA. in 1889: 1889 Augusta City Directory has the following, p. 164 One of them may fit this family. Farris: Miss Aurena, wks Dartmouth Mills, bds 1203 Fenwick [matches a daughter of Beverly] Benjamin, wks L. F. Padgett, res 1316 1/2 Barrett Beverly, painter, res 1203 Fenwick [This seems to match the 1850 census with parents James and Rebecca Farris?] Charles, wks Augusta Factory, bds 1203 Fenwick Edward, wks Augusta Factory, bds 1203 Fenwick Jack, wks L. F. Padgett J., wks Augusta Factory Laura, spinner Augusta Factory [POSSIBLY my great-grandmother, daughter of Howell Farris and Elizabeth born 1772] Miss Rebecca, wks Augusta Factory, bds 1203 Fenwick Thomas, fireman CRR I will accept ANY information on the above folks, that might add a little to my knowledge and understanding of this family. Howell and Elizabeth later Divorced. Have no idea what became of him. Billie Jones Camden, SC [email protected]

    2. You certainly know more about the Wallaces than I do. I do know about Cornelius Faires, the son of Richard H. Faires, my direct ancestor, and the fact that Cornelius m. Sarah Wallace in LCA on 8/9/1823. However, I have her father as William Wallace. I do not have a source so I could be wrong. I do have a John Wallace m. Elizabeth Doyle Clark. The only child that I have is John Wesley Wallace, Jr., 3/31/1811 in SC. D. 2/1897 in Brenham, TX. John jr. m. Louisa Amanda Felder, d/o Daniel Felder and Rachel Young, sister to my ggg grandmother. Louisa was b. 1825 and d. 1897 in TX. In fact, all of this family moved to TX. For some reason, I don't have the matching Samuel Farrises that you mentioned. If we could match these pieces, maybe we could fill in some more of the puzzle. Sylvia Paulk Rhodes

    2. kt, I also found an Isaac Farris in the 1810 census from Washington Co., VA; also in 1820 an Isaac Faris in Hamilton Co., OH, Crosby Twp; and in the 1830 census an Isaac Faris in Laurel Co., KY. In the 1850 US Census for Clark Co, IL, Isaac Farris was 39 years old and a farmer from VA, his wife Catharine was 38 and from OH; Christina was 10; Elizabeth was 12; Samuel was 10 (these are all according to census data); Eliza was 8 and Mary was 1. Good luck in your search. Phyllis

    3. Phyllis Thanks for the info, it could possibley be a connection. It appears that Sarah Thompson Faris died around 1840 and a couple of the children match, so could possibly be Isaac and a second wife. Would it be possible to list the ages of this Farris Family ? This Isaac was aslo born in VA, but his wife was born in OH according to the census. He may be a brother of my ancester, Samuel Sylvester or Sylvester Samuel Faris, who also lived in Clark County at that time.
