Hi Sandra, Sorry for not emailing you back sooner. I have been gone for a week. It sounds like Isom and Nancy I am asking about and yours are the same people. I will wait to hear from you when you get a chance. What is your relationship to them? Thanks Penny ----- Original Message ----- From: Sandra McIntire To: [email protected] Sent: Tuesday, August 12, 2003 11:17 AM Subject: Re: [FARRIS-L] HELP Farris, Isam, Gilbert, Dudley Penny, I am at work so I can only answer partially but I do have info for you. I am doing this from memory and will try to remember to send you some files this next weekend. The Isom and Nancy you mention are Isom and Nancy Blackwell, they married in Daviess Co. KY, I believe. Isom was the son of Gilbert Farris and Dicy Farris. We are unsure of Gilbert's parentage but Dicy was the dau. of Isham & Elizabeth Farris of Knox/Laurel Cos. KY. Can't remember if I posted this info. or not: I am searching for info. on Howell Farriss/Farris who is believed to by the father of my g-grandmother Laura Elizabeth Farriss Inglett, b. 1872, Sparta, Hancock Co., GA. I searched every Farris/Ferris of various spellings in GA. and this is the only family with a son Howell located in GA in 1850. Checked every James in the 1860 GA census index, looked them up, but did not find this same family in 1860 GA. Need to look up Rebecca Farris. CENSUS: 1850 Clark Co, GA, Athens Dist., p. 21, hh#147 James Farris 44 M Factory Op. b. VA could r/w Rebecca Farris 30 F GA could r/w Nancy A. According to records from Howell's wife, Elizabeth Farris, she and Howell divorced. Don't know when. Generation No. 2 2. GILBERT HARMON2 FARRIS was Born September 02, 1829 in , , Indiana. Died August 31,1903 Buried Fairview Cemetary, Grangeville, Idaho. He married CATHERINE POLITE May 02, 1854 in Winchester, Scott Co., Illinois4, daughter of ROBERT POLITE and ELIZABETH VESEY. She was born December 20, 1836 in , , Ohio, and died December 21, 1887 in Buffalo, Wilson Co., Kansas5. He married MARGARET ANN REEVES, daughter of ALEXANDER REEVES and MARY RUGGLES. Jan 28, 1889 Fredonia, Wilson County , Kansas (near Buffalo) She was born March 09, 1842 in , , Indiana, and died January 17, 1913 in Culdesac, Nezperce Co., Idaho3. Notes for CATHERINE POLITE: (Gilbert's first wife) When Gilbert left for the Civil War, Catherine's sister, Mattie Polite came to Greencastle, Missouri to stay with Catherine. While living there she became engaged to a Missourian in the service who was later reported "missing and unaccounted for in battle". Sorrowing and homesick, after a year's absence from Illinois, she returned to Scott County in a covered wagon. There is a headstone in the Fairview Cemetary in Grangeville, Idaho for Catherine and Gilbert. Catherine is not buried there. There are several affadavits from her children in Gilbert's Civil War Pension File stating that Catherine died near Buffalo, Kansas. Then Gilbert remarried in 1889 and then moved to Idaho. The author of this is still researching to find her burial plot. If any of these family names click with you, please email me. Thanks to you all!
I apologize, but this is going to be a long one so I will send it in two different sections. That way some of you out there can look over what I have and hopefully see if anything clicks with you. About a week ago I found new information on my Farris Line. Up until then, I was only back as far as Gilbert Harmon Farris, my G. Grandfather. I now have found him living with Isom Farris. (have seen it spelled Esom, Isam, Isham) I am wondering if this was his father or grandfather, as he is fairly old. There are conflicting ages for Nancy in the two censuses I found, but that was normal sometimes. I don't think Nancy can be their mother, as she would have been 50 when Gilbert was born. My question is. . . Who are Isom & Nancy? They are living with Gilbert & his wife Catherine Polite Farris and their family in 1860. They must have died before 1870, as I can't find them anywhere then. Need any information out there! I think they must be his grandparents, due to their age. If that is the case, then who was Gilbert's father? Also, Who is Amanda Collins? I can't find Dudley any later either. I have found a Dudley Farris, but nothing seems to fit with mine. I seem to be the only relative of this line out there researching backwards, as everyone I find is just going forward - adding marriages, births and deaths. HELP - There has to be someone out there that is researching the same family! 1. ISOM (ISHAM, ISAM)1 FARRIS1,2. Born Abt. 1791 in Kentucky. It is believed that the children listed are from a previous marriage of Isom, as Nancy would have been over the age of 50 when the listed children were born.
