I would LOVE to hear more about this Faris family! I have been theorizing they are connected in some way to my John Faris, born in Kentucky who later moved to Missouri. I found in a manuscript written by Thomas Faris, a copy of which can be found in the Scottsburg, Indiana, public library. Recorded in this manuscript is Thomas's brother Dudley was born on 9/23/1778 (probably in Pittsylvania, Virginia), Dudley married Peggy Douglas on 03/07/1804 (probably in Madison county Kentucky) Their mother and father was Michael Faris and Phoebe Dudley. She was employed as a foster grandparent for 10 years for the state of Rhode Island at the Broad Street Branch YMCA before retiring. She had also been a cook at the Marriot Hotel for several years. FARRIS VICKERS-FARRIS-Lucy Wynell 78, died subsequent to a stroke August 10, 2003 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. She was retired from the Tulsa Public School system, having served as a Cafeteria Manager until 1983. Until struggling with strokes in latter life she was an active member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and Tulsa Baptist Temple and led a spirit filled life of service and dedication to the Lord. Wynell was born March 14, 1925 in Cullman, Alabama to John William (Burck) and Josie Lee Hodge. In 1943 she met and married Bill Vickers in Rome, Georgia. They traveled across the United States through his employment. They ultimately made their home in Tulsa raising 3 children until his death in 1975. She married Clyde Farris in 1983 and they enjoyed their retirement years by traveling and enjoying gospel music until his death in 1996. In 1999 she moved to Bartlesville to be closer to her daughter. Wynell will be greatly missed by her family, who loved her dearly, and her friends. She is survived by her son Bill Vickers and his wife Connie of Cortez, Colorado; her daughter Gail Brown and her husband Keith of Bartlesville; daughter-in-law Sue Locke and husband Bob of Owasso; a sister Jeanette Witcher of Cullman, Alabama; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Maloy and husband Brandon, Michelle Adams, Keith Vickers and wife Kelly, Kevin Brown, and Lauren Brown; 4 great-grandchildren, Beau and Zac Ellingford, Hope Adams, and Colton Vickers; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who is survived by her 3 sons: Donald of Pasadena, Texas, Edward of Salt Lake City, and Douglas of Oklahoma City, and seven grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
