Your posting about twins has prompted me to send this out again. My Greatgrandmother had two sets of twins and a set of triplets. If anyone has knowlege of any of these people if you know for sure which family tree they fell from or just some idea where they fit in. I would love to hear from you. The following is just some notes and facts we have pulled together and believe it to be true. I hope someone out on our list can fill in some of the gaps for me. Estelle Farris - [email protected] 33942 Robbie Lee Drive Denham Springs, Louisiana 70726 (225) 791 - 7881 In our search and wanderings we have found very little about our FARRIS family. In or near 1770 THOMAS FARRIS was born possibly in Virginia, we, however, find him in the South Carolina census of 1790. He is married at this time to a daughter of John Wallace, so far as we know.. THOMAS lives in South Carolina for about ten years where he has a family of six (or more) children (possibly , THOMAS m. Sarah Rayborn, DAVID, DENISY m. John Welch, WILLIAM m. Nancy Zachary, LINDSEY m. Matilda Goode, NANCY m. Fred H. Pollard, JOHN m. (1) Rebecca Green (2) Aurena Fulgham. Thomas and his family move to Kentucky in or near 1800, where he has at least two more sons, SQUIRE m. Rebecca Rutland, and SAMUEL. Thomas then moves his family to Natchez District, Mississippi. The 1810 census list him with seven males and three females but no wife. Thomas I believe may have married Elizabeth Rutland and had six more children, LUCINDA m. Cullen Yaun, ALBERT m. Anny Ott, DANIEL, HESTER m. John H. Sones ( or Jones), MATILDA, SARAH m. Willis Rayborn. There was a THOMAS FARRIS that died in Lawrence County Mississippi in 1845. We believe this to be our progenitor. SAMUEL FARRIS in 1832 married ORPHA SMITH, the daughter of ISAIAH SMITH and SARAH PERKINS. They had two sons THOMAS J., and WILLIAM A while in Mississippi. In 1834 at the probable urgings of Jim Bowie, SAMUEL and four of his brothers along with many Mississippi families moved to Texas. In the 1835 census of the Bevil District in Texas, we find JOHN, WILLIAM, NANCY, SQUIRE, and SAMUEL. DANIEL is also in Texas but not on the Bevil census. Samuel and family while in Texas have another son ISAIAH S. With the Texas rebellion looming over the land and problems with the Spanish government land grants, SQUIRE and SAMUEL move back to Lawrence County Mississippi by 1837. We find SAMUEL there in the census of 1840. He has at least three more children, NANCY, SARAH, and MATILDA. We have no information on ISAIAH S. FARRIS'S early life. We know he married, to whom and where is unclear. It is a slight possibility he married ELIZABETH CASON in 1862 in St. Helena Parish Louisiana. There is a marriage record in St. Helena for SAMUEL FARRIS and ELIZABETH CASON in 1862. We don't know if the S. in Isaiah's name is Samuel or not. He being the third born son it is very likely his middle name. ISAIAH'S son WILLIAM was born in 1862 according to census records so the dates would possibly be in question. In 1854 AMOS PERRY and NANCY ANN TAYLOR PERRY, daughter of ELIAS TAYLOR and LIVINIA BASS, join Salem Church in Livingston Parish Louisiana. Amos dies around 1860 and she then marries James Perkins and has two children SARAH and JAMES. In or near 1864 James Perkins dies and she marries ISAIAH S. FARRIS. In East Baton Rouge Parish in 1865 ISAIAH S. FARRIS married NANCY ANN TAYLOR PERRY PERKINS. While in Baton Rouge they have at least three children MAE ROSELLA, HARRIET, and JOSEPHINE. Josephine would later marry IVERSON BALLARD of Livingston Parish. Isaiah and family are listed in the East Baton Rouge census in 1870 but had already acquired land in Livingston Parish by 1869. There are several land records at the court house in Livingston from the 1870's into early 1900's. Next record we find on this family is in 1884. WILLIAM has married FANNIE. We do not know her maiden name, when or where they married. We do find in the records of Live Oak Methodist Church that Fannie died March 28, 1884, she is buried in Amite Baptist Church Cemetery in Watson, Livingston Parish, Louisiana. On August 8, 1884, ISAIAH FARRIS, NANCY FARRIS, and WILLIAM FARRIS were received by faith in Live Oak Methodist Church in Watson, Livingston Parish Louisiana. In or near 1889 this family transferred from Live Oak to Friendship Methodist church. Thus far Friendship Church records have been unavailable. We hope one day this will change. Sometime between 1884 and 1887 WILLIAM has married VIOLA A. BALLARD sister of afore mentioned Iverson Ballard. ISAIAH FARRIS his wife NANCY PERKINS FARRIS, WILLIAM FARRIS and his wife VIOLA BALLARD FARRIS, join by transfer of certificate the Denham Springs Methodist Church in 1899. ISAIAH is listed in the Livingston Parish History book as a charter member of this church. In the census of Livingston Parish for 1900. William and Viola have (had twelve children, two sets of twins and a set of triplets) seven living children. NETTIE married ROBERT HULL, EMMA married ALONZO HULL, DELLA (a twin), married J. C. SHELTON, ISAIAH (first son), married OLIVIA LOPEZ, CARRIE (a twin), married THOMAS A. HULL, JOEL married EMELINE STEWART, and CHARLEY married SUSIE DORA HILL. According to articles in the Livingston Parish History book. William was Superintendent of Weights and Measures and was the first Town Marshall for Denham Springs. William and Isaiah worked along with many others helping to clear the right of way for the railroad in Denham Springs. Isaiah ran a store near where the present First Baptist Church is located. We grew up with the story that Isaiah donated an acre of land for the cemetery, we as yet have not found records to substantiate this. In 1906 WILLIAM FARRIS died and is buried in the First Baptist Church Cemetery in Denham Springs, Livingston Parish Louisiana. Several court documents deal with William's succession and the tutor and under tutor of the minor children. Also conveyance records for land sale thar had to be titled after his death William's widow married a widower Walter Phillips and left Livingston Parish She died in 1939 and is buried in Jerusalem Church Cemetery in Pumpkin Center Tangipahoa Parish Louisiana. Walter Phillips was buried at Chambers Cemetery in Livingston Parish, Louisiana. Isaiah died in 1916 he was buried in First Baptist Church Cemetery in Denham Springs, Livingston Parish Louisiana. Isaiah's wife moved to St. Charles Parish where she died in 1932. She was brought back to Denham Springs to be buried. Some complication arose about the body arriving late and against many objections, they did the unheard of and she was buried at night. None of the estate for Isaiah or William remained in the hands of any of the Farris family after about 1925.

No twins in my branch - unless you count split personalities.
twins run in our lines also. My father had twin brothers. I am researching the lines in New Castle DE. I have gotten back to 1750 in DE, father to son direct lines. That is where I hit a brick wall. Part of these family lines were to have migrated to N.C. (Mecklenburg) S.C. as the line for these two states shifted somewhat. Epilepsey also runs in these lines. I hate to come back in here and stir things up again, but I am trying to research my lines in New Castle DE who "got" land from William Penn land grants, that being in the late 1600's, early 1700's. I am still looking for the connections to the children of Robert Faries who purchased land in DE in 1727 to add to his land. I have his will, list of children and I have a lot of information on his son William Faris who inherited his land. He also had a son John Faris but I have not been able to unearth much yet on him. Yes, after much ado, twins did run in my lines also. Carole Faries Werner :}

I have looked at several different Farris lines not noticeably linked to the specific lines I'm researching, and find it is still a trait. I'm wondering if twins run in most of the Farris lines, or is it a "side-line" that brought them in. For example: In my mother-in-law's family, on the Farris side, there have been twins in every generation that I've researched up to the current generation, which isn't finished reproducing yet. Have you found this trait in your research? How far back can you follow this trait?

If any of the other names match your family, I'd be pleased to share further information. (FYI-Irvin A. Farris is my husband's great-great grandfather.) THOMAS A. FARRIS was born 1826 in Morgan County, Missouri. He married (1) ANGELINA Bef. 1849 in Richland, Morgan County, Missouri. She was born 1829 in Tennessee, and died Aft. 1850 in Richland, Morgan County, Missouri.He married (2) MARTHA. She was born 1833 in Morgan County, Missouri. According to the 1850 U.S. Census Thomas and his wife Angelina were living in Richland, Morgan County, Missouri, with their one year old daughter Sarah W. Farris. By the 1860 U.S. Census, Angelina had died and Thomas had remarried Martha (possibly Martha Jane Tolbert), and had sons William Farris, born in 1852, and James J. Farris, born in 1859, in addition to Sarah. They lived in Osage, Morgan County, Missouri. It is possible, even probable, that William was the son of Thomas and Angelina. In 1870, Thomas and Martha still lived in Osage, Morgan County, Missouri, however, Sarah and William are not listed on the census. There is a one in the column under "Constitutional Relations, Male Citizens of U.S. 21 years and upwards". Thomas and Martha have several more children by now, including twins only one month old. The children listed in 1870 were: James J., born 1859; Lilly J. (called Lila in 1880 census),born 1862; Irvin A., born 1864; Nathan O., born 1856; Ashley T., born 1869; and twins Martha and Amanda, born May 4, 1870. In 1880, Thomas and Martha still lived in Osage, Morgan County, Missouri, and had added one additional child to their family, Alvin, born in 1879. All of these children are still living at home. There is no listing of Thomas and Martha in the 1900 Census. Here is a listing of the second genereation: 2. JAMES J.3 FARRIS (THOMAS A.2, UNKNOWN1) was born 1859 in Morgan County, Missouri. He married MARY SILVEY September 21, 1884 in Morgan County, Missouri. She was born Abt. 1862. Children of JAMES FARRIS and MARY SILVEY are: i. GEORGE4 FARRIS, d. Abt. 1960. ii. Farris. Lela was born in 1902 and Aubry in 1905. Irvin died in 1906. Both Irvin and Sarah were 18 at the time of their marriage. I have a CD with the Death Index beginning in 1937, and didn't locate a Bartho Farris on it at all. Is there another spelling of his last name that it might be under? (I have to tell you, too, that the SS folks misspelled my grandfather's name on the index by misspelling his first name. Jesse became Jessie, but they added an extra i, so it was listed as Jessiie. So it's possible that the Social Security Number you have is his, but they misspelled his name on it. If you want to e-mail me at [email protected] giving me the number you have, I can pull the index up by SSN and see how he's listed, or if it's someone else entirely.
