She died at 9:20 p.m. Thursday at her home. Mrs. Farris was a native of Calloway County. She and her late husband, Wilburn Lee Farris, formerly operated the Whitehouse Grocery on West Main Street in Murray. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Murray. Surviving are two sisters, Marelle Andrus of Murray and Ann S. Goodwin of Ruidoso, N.M.; three brothers, Jake Stiles and Bill Stiles, both of Tyler, Texas, and L.C. Stiles of Roswell, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Barbara Sue Farris; and one brother. Her parents were Luther and Amy Taylor Stiles. Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

At an early age, she lived on a farm at Dale before the family moved to Galveston. After graduating from Ball High School, Vera went to work with Southwestern Bell as a Telephone switchboard operator before joining moody Bank. In 1942, during World War II, she worked as an operator at Camp Walters but returned to Galveston and the bank after the war. In 1949, Vera and her husband, Kenneth Earl Yancey, and their son moved to Fort Worth where she worked for Continental National Bank and retired from MBank in 1980. While in Galveston, she was an active member of the First Baptist Church. She joined University Baptist Church in Fort Worth when the family moved here. Vera will be remembered as a lovely, gracious, caring and giving lady whose home was always open to her family and friends. She loved flowers and gardening and always had a religious hymn in her song and heart. In addition to her husband, who died in 1985, she was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Otha and Bruce Farris, and sisters, Maurie Dillard, Velma Ferrick and Viola Minnis. He passed from this life to eternal life on November 20, 2003, at the age of 69, after a valiant battle against cancer. He attended High School at Capitol Hill and Mustang. He retired from the Oklahoma Air National Guard as Chief Master Sergeant for the 205th EI Squadron. While in the Oklahoma Air National Guard he was recognized several times as Outstanding Guardsman. He was a member of the Mustang School Board for 15 years. He helped to start the first Little League baseball and football programs in Mustang. He was a committee member of Troop 396 B.S.A. in Mustang. He was an active member of the Masonic Fraternity at Mustang Lodge #407, where he served as secretary for 26 years. He was awarded the Masonic Medal of Honor by the Grand Lodge of Oklahoma. He was K.C.C. H. and a 33 degree member of the Scottish Rite Temple in Guthrie, Oklahoma where Bill served as Innkeeper. He was a member of the Nati! onal Sojourners of Masonry. Bill was a friend to everyone who knew him. Most members of the Mustang community were used to seeing him drive up and down Highway 152 in his old green 69 Chevy pickup as he went about working on his never ending list of projects. There was never a project that was too big or too little for him to tackle, all he had to do was 'cipher on it". He always loved his friends in the Air Guard and Masonic brothers. It was rare to ever go anywhere that he didn't meet and talk to someone he knew. At the temple in Guthrie he loved to visit with the 'little critters". He is survived by is wife of 51 years, 'Momma June". His daughter and son in law, Karen and Jerry Fisher of Mustang. His son Bill Farris, Jr. of Mustang. His two grandsons Greg Booth and Koka Booth, both of Mustang, both of whom attained the honor of Eagle Scout. He was so proud of that fact. His two great grandchildren, Kaleb Smith and Kaitlynn Booth. His third great grand child is expected i! n June of 2004. 'Daddy, you have always been and will always be our he ro, you were our heart and our soul". You always loved the song 'This Little Light of Mine". Every day you let your light shine on every one you came in contact with. Now your light is shining in Heaven. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Monday November 24, 2003 in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd , McNeil's Mustang Funeral Service, Mustang, Oklahoma with interment following in the Mustang Cemetery. She was born April 10, 1925 to the union of Levy and Rosie Griffin Edwards in Kingston, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents Levy and Rosie Griffin Edwards, her husband Deacon Henry (Judge) Farris, Jr., a brother Jack Edwards and four sisters, Rosie E. Ware, Alice E. Atkins, Odessie E. Farris and Levada E. Clark. Survivors include seven children: Larry (Joan) Bates, William (Gwen) Farris, Dessie (Johnny) Evans, Bonnie F. Mitchell, Betty (Albert) Stallworth, Abigail (Lee) Thomas and Agnes F. Douglas, one brother O.C. Edwards; five sisters Kate Burman, Recy Page, Ola Mae Atkins, Odell Freeman and Ida Mae Clark. There will not be a wake. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until religious service at 12:00 noon. Services will be Saturday, October 11, 2003 at 12:00 noon at Mount Mariah Baptist Church, Kingston, LA. Pastor Johnny Baylor will officiate. Interment will be at the Church Cemetery in Kingston. Justin, I have not seen documentation, and I know that I shouldnt add them into my tree yet until I do, Figured I would ask you all to see if anyone here is related to them first. Once i get a chance, which will probably be never, between work and my 18 month old, I have no spare time, Ill drive on over to Jackson County and check court records until then, I can only hope someone else will know my family :)) Thanks Crystal
