I wonder if their time at Miss Porter's overlapped? Patrick worked for her (also as a gardener) from 1874 - 1878, when they moved out west to homestead in Nebraska. Patrick (and his brother Andrew) were nearby from a very small village called Mullagh, near Virginia. We're leaving tomorrow to travel to New Haven (where Patrick lived before he came to Miss Porter's) to do some family history. I've often wondered if he had worked at Yale as a gardener because the president of Yale was Miss Porter's brother. Good to hear from you! You'll have to visit Belturbet sometime.
