Thanks Jill There was someone on the Cavan list transcribing the 1821 census but I thought that my area was lost. I plan to go through the Catholic marriage records for the parish at the National Library. I will let you know if I find anything. My great grandfather Andrew arrived 1859 (ship unknown) and settled at Wellington NSW. We still own the property. A later generation clan member James arrived around 1880 and settled at Balmain. There were Tuites around Waverley but have not established a link yet. I will be meeting a number of long-lost cousins. Maybe when you get to Ireland you can check this info. My James Farrelly came from Cormaddyduff townland. In the 1821 census there were eleven households there named Farrelly. Only one of the households had a son called James, so I am fairly certain this is mine. This information was supplied to me by the Cavan research centre. In order to get any more details I had to pay more money, so I didn't worry about it. However, I do know that my James had five siblings. What their names were I don't know. Another avenue you could follow up if you have time is that Catholic Church records for the parish of Castlerahan exist for the period 1829-1840, so there may be details of the marriages of your Tuites and Farrellys. Do you know what happened to your Tuites after they came to Australia? Maybe we could trace a link that way. As I mentioned in my first email, John and James Farrelly were in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. Best of luck and enjoy your trip to Ireland - I'm 'green' with envy (bad joke I know!) I have two Tuites Andrew and Walter from Lurganboy who married Farrelly sisters (probably Bridget and Eleanor) in the same parish around the same time and had children in the 1830s. On another line a John Tuite married a Mary Farrelly and lived at Fennor near Oldcastle and also had children in the 1830s. I would love to establish a connection to Farrelly's in Australia. PS. I will be travelling to Ireland and visiting the Oldcastle area in a fortnight. Hi Michael Michael and my great grandfather John came to Australia in 1861/1862, not sure which ship. Their brothers came in 1864 aboard the Queen of the East. When the brothers James and Patrick came, the records show they intended to stay with their second cousin Doran, wife of Pat Lynch, farmer of Balmain. There is a Patrick Lynch listed in the Sands Directory of 1864 as a greengrocer of Little Darling Street Balmain. Not sure if this links with your Balmain connection. Regards, Jill
