Jill I don’t suppose you know anymore about your James Farrelly Snr from Castlerahan. I have two Tuites Andrew and Walter from Lurganboy who married Farrelly sisters (probably Bridget and Eleanor) in the same parish around the same time and had children in the 1830s. On another line a John Tuite married a Mary Farrelly and lived at Fennor near Oldcastle and also had children in the 1830s. I would love to establish a connection to Farrelly's in Australia. PS. I will be travelling to Ireland and visiting the Oldcastle area in a fortnight. The brothers came to Sydney Australia in the 1860s. Michael became a mounted policeman. He drowned crossing a river during a winter storm in northern NSW in 1863. John and James settled in Sydney and were prosperous dairy farmers in the Randwick/Waverley areas. Most of their descendants still live in Sydney. John married Mary McGovern and James married Hannah Sullivan. Hi Michael Apparently Castlerahan is one of the 16 parishes with surviving census returns for the year 1821. Maybe when you get to Ireland you can check this info. My James Farrelly came from Cormaddyduff townland. In the 1821 census there were eleven households there named Farrelly. Only one of the households had a son called James, so I am fairly certain this is mine. This information was supplied to me by the Cavan research centre. In order to get any more details I had to pay more money, so I didn't worry about it. However, I do know that my James had five siblings. What their names were I don't know. Another avenue you could follow up if you have time is that Catholic Church records for the parish of Castlerahan exist for the period 1829-1840, so there may be details of the marriages of your Tuites and Farrellys. Do you know what happened to your Tuites after they came to Australia? Maybe we could trace a link that way. As I mentioned in my first email, John and James Farrelly were in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. Best of luck and enjoy your trip to Ireland - I'm 'green' with envy (bad joke I know!)
