He had a pub in Kells. He was a member of the Irish Brigade that went to Italy around 1860 to fight for the Pope against Garibaldi who was attempting to unite the Papal States. Willie was an active Fennian and died around 1873. His tombstone relates the above information and it is in Castlekiernan cemetery. The pub continued to exist in the family of his wife. This information was given to me by his grandniece who is living in Dublin. Other relatives are living in Meath.
