This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Farr, Greer, Rivers, Ford, Griffith Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/pdV.2ACEB/634 Message Board Post: Here's hoping someone can help me get past a longstanding "brick wall." Am seeking ancestors and any other information concerning Richard A. FARR, b. 31 May 1828, supposedly in Virginia (ultimate ancestry may be Irish), d. December 1864 in Civil War (34th Mississippi Infantry). He was married in Marshall County, Mississippi, on 16 July 1852/1853 to Sarah Ann "Sally" GREER (b. 9 July 1834), daughter of William Arnold GREER and Mary Louisa GRIFFITH. Richard A. FARR came to Marshall County about 1850 and was overseer for his future father-in-law. Richard and Sarah FARR are listed on the 1860 Census for Marshall County. They had the following children: Samuel Augusta, 1854-1915; William Dunlap, 1856-1859; Margaret, 1858-1860; and Thornwell Dunlap, 1861-1944. Samuel m. 1877 Mary Ann RIVERS (daughter of Joel Lewis RIVERS and Mary Elizabeth FORD). Thornwell m. 1883 Mary "Molly" HEWITT. Both brothers produced further descendants. The GREER ancestry is already well documented. However, in over thirty years of trying, no one in my family has been able to discover Richard A. FARR's parents or anything else about his origins. Intriguingly, a Mary Elizabeth FARR, said to be b. 1802 in Kentucky and d. 1862 in Marshall Co., Mississippi, is an ancestress of President Clinton's. However, to date, I have not been able to find a link between her and my Richard. If anyone has any information at all concerning Richard, please email me directly at WmCHood@aol.com. I will be most grateful. Information on these FORD and GRIFFITH lines would also be welcome.
