This is an important file. It records Mary Farr, James McCall marriage and disputes those researchers who claim she was the dau of George Farr of Lynn, Mass who m. Matthias Farnsworth. The Mary Farr who married Matthias Farnsworth died 1717 and left a will dated Dec 5, 1716, proved March 7, 1717 and died between these two dates. The will in full is listed p. 30 of the Farnsworth Memorial, 2nd Edition by R. Glen Nyes, 1974. "Captain John McCall, 1726-1812 His Ancestors and Descendants" by Clare M. McCall. "James McCALL, the progenitor of our family, was a captive Scotsman taken at Dunbar in Sep. 1650. He probably died at Braintree, Massachusetts in 1660. He married at Braintree, 11 Dec 1657 Mary FARR who died before 1694. The parentage of Mary or Mercy FARR is obscured by the loss of records. The name occurs in early Braintree as "FFAR" or "FFARRAR." A certain "olde FFARRAR" was an employee of the Braintree iron forge. The name is synonymous with "FARRIER" (hostler), or one in charge or horses, perhaps a blacksmith. James FARR of Braintree, an abuttor of Mary's 2nd husband [Joseph 2) NILES], may have been her father." page 5 Children born at Braintree of James 1) & Mary (FARR) McCALL 1. Dear List First my greetings to one and all for the festive season. W W (o o) \o/ (\o/) / \ Pete Brown Groby Leicestershire, UK Over the past year I have corresponded with about 30 researchers of the family name in the UK and keeping in touch with them all is difficult. I am also aware that many of them do not subscribe to this list, because it is so dominated by New World family branches. For these reasons, I have just set up a new Rootsweb List for the FARR name (and variants) in UK and Ireland, to focus the efforts of this large group of people. In time we should be able to offer a much better service to family elsewhere who are trying to trace UK origins. It is my intention to ensure that any items that deal more widely than UK/Ireland are referred on to this list, or cross-posted. I will inform this parent list of useful developments, but please contact me if you have any queries. You can subscribe to the new list in mail mode by sending a message to FARR-UK-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word subscribe and nothing else. If you prefer digest mode, send the command instead to FARR-UK-D-request@rootsweb.com.

For those that were asking in the recent past about the Farr -Pharr book, I ran across the Intralibrary Loan Form that I used to borrow it. So here is the real title and other important things in regards to it. Author - Henry Newton Pharr Title - Pharrs & Farrs with Other Descendants.... I was able to borrow a copy from the library in Baton Rouge, LA. I believe that Henry Newton Pharr, published it, but some of the research was done by a cousin or uncle of his, and that they lived in LA or TX. Hope this will help some of you that think that you might descend from this family. Nancy Farr Bible

What county on Alabama was born? Do you know where he got married? When did he move from AL? Also, there are two more George Pharrs in Wilcox County, AL that are mulatto. Could he be one of them? Here is a good item found online by Anne Sennish (aka JMJJF@aolcom) Thanks Anne! http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohcuyaho/rockport.htm Mrs. Eliel FARR (Hannah GARDINER) was born in Boziah, Conn., 1769, married and came to Ohio 1819, and settled in Rockport, where she remained until her death. She was the mother of four sons, and adopted a girl, whose name was Jane. Her husband was as civil engineer, and among the relics of the FARR family are plans of the first bridge built across Rocky River. They kept store, and here are some items taken from an old account book: Oct. 15, 1816, 1 bbl. Salt…………………$8.25 Sept. 4, 1816, 5 ½ yds. Calico……………. 3.10 Aug. 27, 1816, 1 ½ yds. Broadcloth………10.50 Oct. 14, 1816, 3 ½ yds. cotton sheeting…… 1.75 For postage on letters………………………. .25 The FARRS, having their pewter dishes stolen by Indians and expecting company, resorted to the expedient of whittling some out of basswood chips.Mrs. Aurellus FARR (Marilla FOLLET) came in 1812 with her father’s family from Lenox, Mass., where she was born. After arriving at their destination, they at once set about making their home, and endured all the privations and hardships familiar to early settlers. Marilla married in 1821, and they moved on to a farm in Rockport, where she resided until her death, 1874. Her daughters were Amanda (Mrs. William BIDWELL) and Hannah (Mrs. Alfred KELLEY), now deceased. Emily, wife of D.K. HUNTINGTON, is now living in Olmsted, O. Mrs. FARR was a faithful friend and neighbor, a kind mother, and for many years gave to her husband’s aged father the tender care of a true daughter.
I am searching for information on David Farr/Pharr. Born about 1832 and died in the Civil War Battle of Seven Pines. He married Nancy Snow. His father was John Farr, born about 1802, who had a brother Clem/Clemon Farr. They were from Mecklenburg or Anson County, NC. Cannot locate a name for mother of John Farr or David Farr. . The only information that I have is that David's brothers were Joseph, John and Samuel Farr. Any information greatly appreciated. Please E-mail me at srg@conninc.com. Thanks, Selena Goodin

Hi Derrell! I did a double take, when I saw a mention of Shelby Co., AL mentioned in the Farr list. My Farrs were part of the group of Farrs that settled there in the early 1800's when the Indian lands were opened up for white settlers. I thought I was pretty well versed on the Shelby Co. Farrs, but seems you have brought in a new connection on me. A couple of years ago, I had worked with some other researchers on connecting our Farrs that went to Shelby Co., AL with those that came from the Lexington Co., area of SC. We have pretty well traced our branch back to a German immigrant that was given a land grant in Dutch Fork area of SC, by the name of John George Fahr, (notice the difference in spelling). We believe that most of the Farrs in Shelby Co. were from that family, because many of them had German given names. Apparently you descend from Margaret that married the Hodgens. Did her descendants stay in the Shelby Co. AL area, or did they move on to other places? Do you know of any other Farrs related to yours that lived in SC? I was under the impression that most of those that lived in the NW part of SC were descendants of Col. William Farr, that settled in Union Co., SC. Any thoughts on either connections that I have mentioned, i.e. John George Fahr or Col. William Farr? Thanks for your time.
